No. 11 MIT Leads Field Following Day One of NEWMAC Women's Track & Field Championships

NEW LONDON, Conn. — After one day of action at the 2026 NEWMAC Women's Track & Field Championships, #11 Massachusetts Institute of Technology holds a commanding lead on the 10-team field with 96.5 points.

The Engineers won four of the day's five events and held the top two podium spots in two of them. Leading the way was a NEWMAC meet record performance in the 10,000 meters by Ava Hartman, whose time of 37:16.10 was 26 seconds faster than the runner-up.

Heptathlon Update

Tara Jessen of Coast Guard leads the heptathlon through Day 1 after amassing 2,591 points. Jessen was tops in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, and 200 meters. Elaine McCarty of Babson is currently in second place with 2,302 points after top four finishes in all four events, including runner-up performances in the high jump and 200m and a third-place showing in the 100m hurdles.

The meet will resume tomorrow at 10:30 AM ET.
