MIT Stays atop Standings Following Day Three of NEWMAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.  - MIT won five of six events, helping it remain atop the team standings following the third day of the NEWMAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, hosted by MIT at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool. 

MIT increased its lead to 1,079 points with Coast Guard remaining in second place (528 points), Wellesley in third place (464 points), Babson in fourth place (353 points), Wheaton in fifth place (352 points), WPI moving up to sixth place (341 points), Smith dipping to seventh place (310 points), and Springfield (222 points), Clark (179 points), and Mount Holyoke (130 points) rounding out the standings. 

Tomorrow, Sunday, February 22, is the last day of action and will feature the 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 1650 Free, 3-Meter Diving, and the 400 Free Relay.

  • Champion: Amber Gong, MIT (4:27.54) 

    • Notes: NCAA B cut 

  • Runner-Up: Christina Beggs, MIT (4:28.33) 

    • Notes: NCAA B cut 

100 Fly: 

  • Champion: Sydney Smith, MIT (54.49) 

    • Notes: NEWMAC meet and open record, NCAA B cut and a 2025 invited time 

  • Runner-Up: Belise Swartwood, MIT (55.46) 

    • Notes: NCAA B cut and 2025 invited time 

200 Free: 

  • Champion: Jessie Crane, MIT (1:50.76) 

    • Notes: NCAA B cut and 2025 invited time 

  • Runner-Up: Garin Stone, Wheaton (1:51.19) 

    • Notes: Stone was the runner-up last year. NCAA B cut and a 2025 invited time. 

100 Breast: 

  • Champion: Kavita Sekhon, Wellesley (1:03.10) 

    • Notes: NCAA B cut and 2025 invited time 

  • Runner-Up: Sarah Bernard, MIT (1:03.32) 

    • Notes: Bernard earned her second All-Conference honor as she was the 2025 champion. NCAA B cut and a 2025 invited time. 

100 Back: 

  • Champion: Sydney Smith, MIT (54.68) 

    • Notes: Smith was the runner-up at last year’s championship to teammate Annika Naveen. NCAA B cut and a 2025 invited time. 

  • Runner-Up: Annika Naveen, MIT (56.57) 

    • Notes: A two-time champion, Naveen earned her fourth all-conference award. NCAA B cut. 

200 Medley Relay: 

  • Champion: MIT (1:42.54) - Christina Beggs, Sarah Bernard, Annika Naveen, Sydney Smith 

    • Notes: Naveen is a three-time champion in the event while Bernard collected her second title. NCAA B cut and a 2025 invited time. 

  • Runner-Up: Wellesley (1:43.30) - Tracey Liu, Kavita Sekhon, Lucy Choe, Alexis Kung 

    • Notes: NCAA B cut and 2025 invited time
