MIT Increases Lead After Day Two of NEWMAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT won all six events and had three runner-up performances, helping it increase its lead following the second day of the NEWMAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, hosted by MIT at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool. 

MIT sits atop the standings with 615 points, followed by Coast Guard in second place (305 points), Wellesley in third place (246 points), Babson in fourth place (232 points), Wheaton in fifth place (200 points), Smith in sixth place (197 points), WPI in seventh place (176 points), Springfield in eighth place (157 points), Clark in ninth place (105 points), and Mount Holyoke in 10th place (94 points). 

Competition will resume tomorrow, Saturday, February 21, at MIT with prelims at 10:00 AM followed by the finals at 6:00 PM. Tomorrow’s events will include the 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, and the 200 Medley Relay. 

Friday Championship Results 
(Champion earns First Team All-Conference honors, while runner-up is Second Team All-Conference) 

200 Free Relay: 

  • Champion: MIT (1:32.62) - Rachel Yang, Sydney Smith, Olivia Chen, Annika Naveen  

    • Notes: Naveen was a member of the winning relay for the fourth year in a row , while Smith became a repeat champion. The performance resulted in an NCAA B cut and a 2025 invited time 

  • Runner-Up: Babson (1:36.03) - Samantha Gilbert, AJ Hallbert, Sylvie Racicot, Julia Netishen 

500 Free: 

  • Champion: Mary Feliz, MIT (4.52.57) 

    • Notes: Feliz set a NEWMAC meet record and produced an NCAA B cut as well as a 2025 invited time. 

  • Runner-Up: Sarah Bernard, MIT (4:56.90) 

    • Notes: Bernard earned her second All-Conference award in the event as she was the 2025 champion. Her performance resulted in an NCAA B cut and a 2025 invited time. 

200 IM: 

  • Champion: Kathy Nie, MIT (2:02.55) 

    • Notes: Nie’s performance was an NCAA B cut and a 2025 invited time. 

  • Runner-Up: Amber Gong, MIT (2:04.99) 

    • Notes: Gong’s performance was an NCAA B cut and a 2025 invited time. 

50 Free: 

  • Champion: Annika Naveen, MIT (23.15) 

    • Notes: Naveen captured her first title after being a runner-up last year. Her performance was also an NCAA B cut and a 2025 invited time. 

  • Runner-Up: Julia Netishen, Babson (23.86) 

1-Meter Diving: 

  • Champion: Logan Yee, MIT (492.05) 

    • Notes: Yee recorded an NCAA Qualifying Score. 

  • Runner-Up: Fiora Beratahani, MIT (466.20) 

    • Notes: Beratahani earned her third All-Conference honor as she was the NEWMAC Champion in 2024 and 2025. Her performance was also an NCAA Qualifying Score. 

400 Medley Relay: 

  • Champion: MIT (3:45.30) - Sydney Smith, Sarah Bernard, Belise Swartwood, Lillian Poag 

    • Notes: Smith and Bernard were members of the 2025 winning relay team. The performance was an NCAA B cut and a 2025 invited time. 

  • Runner-Up: Wellesley (3:48.83) - Tracey Liu, Kavita Sekhon, Lucy Choe, Alexis Kung 

    • Notes: The performance was an NCAA B cut.
