MIT Named Coaching Staff of the Year as the NEWMAC Recognizes the Men's Cross Country Postseason Awards

MARLBOROUGH, Mass – After winning their 27th-straight NEWMAC title at the 2025 NEWMAC Men's Cross Country Championships, the MIT coaching staff earned the honor of 2025 NEWMAC Men's Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year. The Engineers, currently ranked No. 11 in the nation by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, tallied 20 points and boasted five finishers among the top eight, including first, second, third, sixth, and eighth. The Engineers also claimed ninth and 10th place among individual finishers. MIT has won all 27 NEWMAC Championship races since 1998. The MIT coaching staff is led by Riley Macon, along with director Julie Heyde, and assistants Whitney Macon, Christina Crow, Ziyad Hassan, and Ned Farrington.

MIT senior Tim Neumann (Downers Grove, Ill.) turned in a winning time of 25:07.9 and was named the NEWMAC Athlete of the Year to become the 12th straight and 23rd overall runner to earn the honor for MIT. MIT first-year Sam Hansen’s (Bountiful, Utah) eighth-place showing with a time of 25:43.0 led to him being named MIT’s 24th NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and extended the Engineers’ streak to 15 consecutive top conference rookie honorees. WPI senior Everett Mosher (Chester, Vt.) shared the honor after placing fourth for WPI with a clip of 25:14.3 in his first year in the sport.  

Mosher was also named the recipient of the Laurels of Academic Excellence, awarded to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the championship site. The senior boasts a GPA of 4.0 in his Civil Engineering major. 

In addition, the top 14 finishers at the NEWMAC Championship earned All-Conference honors.
