NEWMAC Announces 2024 Men's Track & Field Postseason Awards

Westwood, Mass.- Following the 2024 NEWMAC Men’s Track and Field Championship on April 27, the NEWMAC released its major awards and all-conference teams. The Men’s Track and Field All-Conference Team consists of a first team and a second team, which was determined by student-athlete finish at the event, with first place performance earning first time all-conference honors, and second place finishes earning second team all-conference accolades. The Track Athlete, Field Athlete, Rookie and Coaching Staff of the Year were voted on by the six head coaches following the NEWMAC Championship.  
 
Track Athlete of the Year- Anthony Rodriguez, Babson
 
For the second straight year, Anthony Rodriguez has earned Track Athlete of the Year honors. He combined for 18 points in the NEWMAC Championship as he took first place in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 31:29.25, and second in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:44.56. His 10,000-meter run is currently ranked 15th in the nation.
 
Co-Field Athlete of the Year- Eric Bottern, Babson College
 
Bottern took first place in the shot put in the NEWMAC Championship, with a distance of 17.18 meters. He currently ranks eighth nationally in the shot put. He also took second in the discus, with a throw of 41.36m, and third in the hammer with a distance of 46.70m. Bottern combined for 24 points, as Babson took third in the Championship.
 
Co-Field Athlete of the Year- Sam Engebretson, MIT
 
For the second consecutive year, Engebretson has earned Field Athlete of the Year honors. He won both the discus and hammer throw at the NEWMAC Championship, with throws of 50.79 and 54.38 respectively. He also took second in shot put with a distance of 16.65 m, helping the Engineers to the NEWMAC title. He is ranked 12th nationally in the discus throw, and 11th in the shot put and 14th in the hammer throw.
 
Rookie of the Year- Chris McDonough, Babson College
 
In his rookie campaign, McDonough scored a combined 23 points, as he took first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.84, and fourth in the 200-meter dash, setting a school record time of 21.80. He was also the anchor of the 4X100 meter relay team, which took second and set a school record with a time of 41.52. He currently ranks 23rd nationally in the 100-meter dash, while the relay has the 48th best time in DIII.
 
Coaching Staff of the Year- Babson College
 
Babson registered three school records on the way to a program-best third-place finish at the NEWMAC track & field championships on April 27. The Beavers finished in third place with a program record 151 points, nearly double their previous high of 80 points which they scored last year, and just six shy of second place and one-half point ahead of fourth place WPI. The Babson staff is led by head coach Russ Brennen, and includes assistants Amber Spencer, Chris Ramsey, Bob Fiedler and Brent Sitarski.
