WESTWOOD, Mass. – The NEWMAC has announced the 2022-23 Women's Swimming and Diving major award honorees following the championship last weekend. All awards were voted on by the head swimming and diving coaches.
After leading the Springfield Pride to a third place finish at the NEWMAC Championships last weekend, the Springfield leaders have been named the Coaching Staff of the Year for women's swimming. The Pride set numerous intuitional records while producing many NCAA "B" cut marks throughout the weekend and All-Conference accolades. The Pride are led by head coach John Taffe alongside assistants, Howard Hinds,Grace Carlson, Melanie Avdoulos, Peter Avdoulos and Annemarie Van Langen.
For women's diving, Mount Holyoke's Rachael Araujo was named the Diving Coach of the Year for the third consecutive year. Araujo helped lead Lyons diver, Maddy Sewell to a 3rd place finish on the 1-Meter Board and a second place finish on the 3-Meter Board.
Announced on the final evening of the championship, the MIT Engineers swept the major awards for Swimmer, Diver and Rookie of the Year. Kate Augustyn was voted the Swimmer of the Year while Rachel Loh claimed Diver of the Year honors following two first place finishes on the 1-Meter and 3-Meter Boards. Engineers first year, Sonia Seliger was tabbed the Rookie of the Year. MIT took home their 12th consecutive NEWMAC title last weekend totaling 17 for the program.
