Louisville, Ky. - August 18, 2026 - Eight softball programs from the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) were recently honored with the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s (NFCA) Team Academic Awards and 99 individual student-athletes from the league were recognized as Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes.
The NEWMAC saw five of the eight programs recognized land in the top-25 nationally for cumulative team grade point averages paced by a 3.771 effort from Wheaton College. The Lyons were followed in ninth by the Pride of Springfield College (3.734), in 12th by the Cougars of Clark University (3.715), in 20th by the Bears of Smith College (3.692) and in 25th by the Engineers of WPI (3.68).
Three other programs eclipsed the necessary 3.00 grade point average necessary for the award including MIT (3.60), Wellesley College (3.57) and Babson College (3.16). Nominations were not submitted by Emerson College, Salve Regina University or Coast Guard.

About the NEWMAC
The NEWMAC is an association of 13 selective academic institutions: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Saint Anselm College (beginning reclassification process with NCAA in 2027-28), Salve Regina University, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute, that are committed to providing high quality competitive athletic opportunities for student-athletes within an educational and respectful environment that embodies the NCAA Division III Philosophy.
