NEWMAC Announces Athlete of the Week Honorees (week ending April 12)

Marlborough, Mass.- The NEWMAC has announced its Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending 4/12/26, presented by SKYBOKX 109 Bar & Grill in Natick, Massachusetts. The full list of honorees can be found below.
 
Baseball
 
Pitcher of the Week- Aiden Cardoza (Jr., LHP), Wheaton College
 
Junior Aiden Cardoza (Dartmouth, Mass.) was outstanding in his only appearance of the week, hurling seven innings of five-hit shutout ball, while striking out five batters and walking no one in a victory over visiting Worcester Polytechnic Institute on April 11. The junior held the Engineers to a paltry .192 (5-26) batting mark and did not allow a runner past second base in the outing.
 
Athlete of the Week- Dom Mariani (Sr., 3B), Clark University
 
Senior Dom Mariani (Walpole, Mass.) delivered a dominant offensive performance for the Cougars, hitting .600 with a 1.120 slugging percentage and .630 on-base percentage across five games. He recorded at least two hits in every contest, finishing the week with 15 hits, including four doubles and three home runs. Mariani drove in 17 runs and scored eight times, powering a Cougars offense that produced double-digit runs in three of five games.
 
Men's Lacrosse
 
Offensive Player of the Week – Daniel Naglieri (Sr., A), Salve Regina University
 
Senior Daniel Naglieri (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) had seven goals on 13 shots (.538%) and an assist for 8 points in a senior day win over Clark. He leads the NEWMAC in goals per game with a 3.45 per game average and is second in points per game with a 4.82 average per game.
 
Defensive Player of the Week – Will Kein (Sr., GK), Salve Regina University  
 
Senior Will Kein (Summit, N.J.) anchored the Salve defense in an 18-7 Senior Day victory over Clark, recording 15 saves while allowing just seven goals over 51 minutes of action. The senior posted a .681 save percentage while facing consistent pressure, and added four ground balls to contribute to transition. His 15-save performance marked one of his strongest outings of the season and played a key role in securing the Seahawks' win.
 
Face Off Specialist of the Week – Dominic Savastano (Gr. FO/M), Springfield College  
 
Sophomore Dominic Savastano (South Salem, N.Y.) was dominant on the face off on Saturday against Wheaton, winning 21-of-29 attempts, including four in the fourth quarter alone, allowing the Pride to maintain possession as Springfield outscored the Lyons 4-3 in the final 15 minutes of play en route to the 14-12 NEWMAC victory. The 21 face off wins for Savastano were not only a season-high, but a career-high for the sophomore midfielder.
 
Women's Lacrosse
 
Offensive Player of the Week – Abby McAllister (Sr., A), U.S. Coast Guard Academy
 
Senior Abby McAllister (Pleasantville, N.Y.) tied a program record with 12 points in back-to-back games, leading the team to NEWMAC victories over Wellesley and Wheaton. She erupted for seven goals and five assists against Wellesley before following up with six goals and six assists against Wheaton, delivering one of the most dominant offensive stretches in program history.
 
Defensive Player of the Week- Pauline Vien (Jr., GK), MIT
 
Junior Pauline Vien (Brookline, Mass.) recorded 17 saves, a .447 save percentage, and three groundballs. Last Tuesday, in a 16-13 win over Endicott, she collected nine saves and one groundball. Vien then posted eight saves and two groundballs in a 19-8 victory against Babson on Saturday. 
 
Rowing
 
Boat of the Week- Coast Guard Varsity 8
 
Coast Guard's Varsity Eight earned a statement victory on Saturday, defeating No. 7-ranked Colby College by seven seconds. The Bears crossed the finish line in 7:32.5, showcasing a strong and controlled race against top-10 competition to secure the win at home.
 
Softball
 
Pitcher of the Week- Violet Peverly (Fy., P/IF), Smith College
 
First year Violet Peverly (Granby, Conn.) was the anchor of a Smith pitching staff that went 4-0 last week, delivering two complete-game wins in four days and allowing just one earned run across 14 innings of work. Peverly opened the week Tuesday against Amherst, throwing a complete-game shutout in which she walked zero batters and faced just 27 hitters — the minimum. She scattered seven hits and surrendered no earned runs on 99 pitches. On Friday against Salve Regina, she was even more dominant by contact allowed, holding the Seahawks to three hits while striking out six over another complete seven innings. She finished the week 2-0 with a 0.50 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP, and nine strikeouts against three walks in 14.0 innings pitched. Peverly now owns eight complete games on the season. 
 
Athlete of the Week- Virginia McKinney (Jr., OF), WPI
 
Junior Virginia McKinney (Larchmont, N.Y.) paced the WPI offense during a 5–1 week, batting .522 (12-for-23) with nine runs scored, eight RBI, and four stolen bases. The sophomore delivered a signature performance in a doubleheader sweep of Brandeis, highlighted by a 4-for-5 effort with four runs scored, six RBI, and two home runs in the nightcap after adding a multi-hit game in the opener. The centerfielder continued her strong play in conference action at Babson, collecting three hits, including a double, and driving in a run to help secure a key NEWMAC victory. McKinney added another multi-hit performance in Saturday's sweep of Coast Guard, finishing the week with four multi-hit games.
 
Men's Tennis
 
Singles Player of the Week – Austin Prendiville (Fy.), Springfield College
 
First year Austin Prendiville (City Beach, Australia) was dominant this week for Springfield, going 6-0 overall and 4-0 in singles play, leading the Pride to a trio of wins and locking up a top-three seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament. In singles play alone, Prendiville picked up wins over Anthony Gregoire of Coast Guard (#2, 6-1, 6-0), Connor Leung of Emerson (#2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2), and Kole Pinto of Salve Regina (#2, 6-1, 6-1). He also picked up a singles win against Farmingdale State on Thursday.
 
Doubles Team of the Week – Edward Wang (So.) and Sebastian Mendoza (So.), Babson College  
 
Edward Wang (Burr Ridge, Ill.) and Sebastian Mendoza (Weston, Fla.) won their only match of the week while playing together on Friday by defeating George Chaidemenos and Rex Harrison of Amherst 6-2 at number two in 11th-ranked Babson's 4-3 loss to the 20th-ranked Mammoths. 
 
Women's Tennis
 
Singles Player of the Week – Peyton Gaudreau (Fy.), Springfield College
 
First year Peyton Gaudreau (Branford, Conn.) went 3-0 for Springfield this week at No. 1 singles and lost only three games all week as two of her victories (the two in NEWMAC play) came as 6-0, 6-0 decisions. Gaudreau began her week with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Maddie Rossetti of Saint Joseph's Connecticut before shutting out both Teah Login of Emerson and Kaydin Pinto of Salve Regina. Gaudreau was also a perfect 3-0 in doubles play this week for the Pride.
 
Doubles Team of the Week – Alaina Kolli (Sr.) & Artemis Pados (Fy.), MIT
 
Seniors Alaina Kolli (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) and Artemis Pados (Delray Beach, Fla.) posted a 4-3 victory over No. 16 Amherst on Saturday. The duo won their match at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, racing out to a 4-0 lead against Lily Dounchis and Cody Huang, but Amherst won the next three games. Kolli and Pados then increased their slim margin to 5-3. Dounchis and Huang extended the match by picking up the next game; however, MIT thwarted the comeback attempt by taking what proved to be the final game of the match. 
 
Men's Track & Field
 
Field Athlete of the Week- Skyler Mott (Gr.), Babson College
 
Graduate student Skyler Mott (Mills Neck, N.Y.) came in first in the high jump by clearing 6-feet, 9-inches at the Tufts Spring Stampede on Saturday. The mark fell just 0.75 inches shy of his school-record set back on March 19, which currently has him ranked fifth in Division III this spring. 
 
Relay Team of the Week- 4 X 400, Wheaton College
 
Sophomores Harrison Page (South Berwick, Maine), Aidan Greenleaf (Topsham, Maine), junior Kevin Smith (Norfolk, Mass.) and first-year Nolan Bushnell (Rochester, Mass.) combined to post a time of 3:23.67 to place third at the Tufts Spring Invitational on April 11 in Medford, Mass.
 
Track Athlete of the Week- Mike Anderson (Jr.), Springfield College
 
Junior Mike Anderson (Cromwell, Conn.) broke his own school record in the 110-meter hurdles with a first-place finish at the UMass Commonwealth Invitational on Saturday. His time of 14.18 seconds currently sits sixth fastest in the nation and tops in the NEWMAC this season.

Women's Track & Field
 
Field Athlete of the Week- Allie Wildsmith (Sr.), U.S. Coast Guard Academy

Senior Allie Wildsmith (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) won the high jump against Division I competition at the South Florida Invitational, clearing 1.78m, which is now the top jump in Division III this season.

Relay Team of the Week- 4 X 100, Wheaton College
 
Seniors Wendy Wooden (Sharon, Mass.), Michaina Loriston (Boston, Mass.), junior Camille Connors (Woburn, Mass.), and senior Kate Wickenheisser (Oxford, Conn.) won the Tufts Spring Invitational with a mark of 47.37. The mark is second in the NEWMAC this season, only to their own time posted last weekend.
 
Track Athlete of the Week- Krystal Montgomery (Sr.), MIT
 
Senior Krystal Montgomery (San Jose, Calif.) ran a national top ten time in the 800m on Friday night at the Friar Invitational in Providence. Montgomery finished fourth behind a pair of Providence runners and a competitor from Harvard in 2:10.67 in the invitational 800m. All four of the fastest runners were in the second of the two heats, as Montgomery was the fastest Division III runner in the field.
