NEWMAC Announces Athlete of the Week Honorees (week ending April 5)

Marlborough, Mass.- The NEWMAC has announced its Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending 4/5/26, presented by SKYBOKX 109 Bar & Grill in Natick, Massachusetts. The full list of honorees can be found below.
 
Baseball
 
Pitcher of the Week- Luis Ortiz Ramirez (Jr., P), Salve Regina University
 
Junior Luis Ortiz Ramirez (Boston, Mass.) enjoyed two visits to Worcester during a 4-0 week for the #4 Seahawks. Due to an injury to the starter at WPI, Ortiz Ramirez came in emergency relief and worked 5.2 innings in Salve Regina's 13-1 triumph, allowing only two hits and striking out 6, without allowing a run. Back in the WooSox backyard on Saturday, Ortiz Ramirez got the final five outs in a come-from-behind extra-inning win over Clark in a Seahawks sweep. In total, he pitched 7.1 innings with no runs allowed, picked up the victories in both appearances to improve to 4-0 on the season, struck out seven batters, and walked none. He has faced 73 batters this season and has issued no free passes while whiffing 15, all in neutral or road environments.
 
Athlete of the Week- Danny Rogers (So., OF), Salve Regina University
 
Sophomore Danny Rogers (New Canaan, Conn.) has now hit safely in every game this season, adding to his multi-hit totals (now 10 games) with a pair of four-hit wins (Friday versus Johnson & Wales, Saturday at Clark). For the week, he went 10-for-21 at the plate (.476) with a double, four stolen bases, six runs scored, and an RBI. He made a dozen grabs in center field flawlessly across the four games for the #4 Seahawks, who went 4-0 on the week.
 
Men's Lacrosse
 
Offensive Player of the Week – Jake Degnan (Jr., A), Springfield College
 
Junior Jake Degnan (Mahopac, N.Y.) recorded three goals and two assists for five points to go along with six ground balls in a dominant 17-4 NEWMAC win at Emerson on Saturday. Degnan scored a goal in each of the first three quarters, while his pair of assists came late in the second half, which put the Pride ahead 8-0 at the time.
 
Defensive Player of the Week – Andrew Almquist (So., GK), Babson College
 
Sophomore Andrew Almquist (Wakefield, Mass.) was terrific in a pair of starts, making 20 saves and posting a 5.43 goals against average and a .667 save percentage to lead No. 5/8 Babson to two wins. He made eight saves in just under 51 minutes of action in Tuesday's 18-5 win at UMass Boston and followed it up by making nine of his 12 saves in the first half before the Beavers pulled away to defeat Coast Guard, 16-6, on Saturday. 
 
Face Off Specialist of the Week – Beau Burns (Gr. FOM), Babson College  
 
Graduate student Beau Burns (Washington, D.C.) won 81.3 percent of his face-offs (26-of-32) and picked up 20 ground balls to help No. 5/8 Babson record a pair of double-digit wins. He was a perfect 15-of-15 while scooping up 12 ground balls in Tuesday's 18-5 rout of UMass Boston, and went 11-of-17 on face-offs while leading all players with eight ground balls to help the Beavers defeat Coast Guard, 16-6, on Saturday. 
 
Women's Lacrosse
 
Offensive Player of the Week – Abby McCallister (Sr., A), U.S. Coast Guard Academy
 
Senior Abby McCallister (Pleasantville, N.Y.) led Coast Guard to a key 14–11 conference victory over Smith, totaling 10 points on six goals and four assists to keep the Bears undefeated at 6–0 in NEWMAC play. The attacker was exceptionally efficient, placing 10 of her 11 shots on goal while orchestrating the offense in a tightly contested matchup. In addition to her offensive output, McCallister contributed on both ends of the field with a draw control and a caused turnover, capping a standout all-around performance.
 
Defensive Player of the Week- Cedar Conrad (So., GK), Springfield College
 
Sophomore Cedar Conrad (Amherst, Mass.) came off the bench and recorded six second-half saves to keep Springfield in the game against No. 17 Babson on Saturday. Her six saves – four of which came in the fourth quarter – single-handedly prevented Babson from taking the lead over the Pride as Springfield went on to win 11-9, its first win over Babson in four seasons.
 
Rowing
 
Boat of the Week- Wellesley Varsity 8
 
The Blue came in second, only to No. 2 Williams College, in the Varsity Eight race of the Saratoga Invite. The Blue clocked in at 6:49.7, nearly 20 seconds ahead of third-place No. 13 Skidmore.

Softball
 
Pitcher of the Week- Amelia DeRosa (Sr., P/3B), Springfield College
 
Senior Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) made a statement on Friday against Clark as she punched out 19 batters in a 4-1 win for the Pride. The 19 strikeouts marked the most by a pitcher in Division III this season and the third most in a seven-inning game in Division III softball history. DeRosa went on to go 2-1 in the circle this week, picking up conference wins over Clark and Wellesley, and totaled 27 strikeouts in 21 innings for the Pride.
 
Athlete of the Week- Emma Nagy (Sr., 1B), WPI
 
Senior Emma Nagy (Monroe, Wash.) paced the WPI offense during a perfect 6–0 week, batting .500 (8-for-16) with nine RBI and six runs scored. She delivered her top performance in Saturday's sweep of Emerson, which moved the Engineers to 18-0 overall and 6-0 in NEWMAC play, going a combined 5-for-5 with seven RBI in the doubleheader. Nagy launched a game-ending grand slam in the opener and added a pair of doubles with two runs scored and two RBI in the nightcap.
The first baseman also came through in Friday's sweep of Wheaton, ripping a key two-run triple in game two to secure one of two one-run victories over the Lyons. Earlier in the week, she added a home run as the Crimson and Gray opened their home slate with a doubleheader sweep of Emmanuel.
 
Men's Tennis
 
Singles Player of the Week – Edward Wang (So.), Babson College
 
Sophomore Edward Wang (Burr Ridge, Ill.) went 2-0 with straight-set wins at both number one and two singles for ninth-ranked Babson. He defeated Pablo Munoz 6-1, 6-4 at number two singles in Friday's 7-0 sweep of Wheaton and then recorded a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Niki Lavu at number one to help the Beavers defeat Haverford, 5-2, on Saturday. 
 
Doubles Team of the Week – Edward Wang (So.) and Sebastian Mendoza (So.), Babson College  
 
Edward Wang (Burr Ridge, Ill.) and Sebastian Mendoza (Weston, Fla.) went 2-0 by cruising to a pair of victories at number two singles for No. 9 Babson. They downed Paul Berteaux and Pablo Munoz of Wheaton, 6-2, in Friday's 7-0 sweep of the Lyons and then posted a 6-1 victory over Teo Bortan and Niki Lavu to help the Beavers defeat Haverford, 5-2, on Saturday. 
 
Women's Tennis
 
Singles Player of the Week – Matia Cristiani (Sr.), Babson College
 
Senior Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) remained unbeaten on the year with a pair of dominating straight-set victories to help No. 7 Babson record two wins over nationally-ranked opponents. She dispatched Rebecca Suarez 6-0, 6-2 in Thursday's 4-0 win over Brandeis and followed it up with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph of Mia Thomann as the Beavers defeated No. 13 Williams, 5-2, on Friday. 
 
Doubles Team of the Week – Matia Cristiani (Sr.) & Sandra Sikharulidze (Fy.), Babson College
 
Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) and Sandra Sikharulidze (Kyiv, Ukraine) extended their winning streak to 10 matches with a pair of wins at number one doubles last week. They defeated Mandy Reyes and Rebecca Suarez 6-3 in Thursday's 4-0 victory at No. 21 Brandeis and followed it up with a 6-4 triumph over Ayanna Varma and Jane Ladaga in Friday's 5-2 win at No. 13 Williams. 
 
Men's Track & Field
 
Field Athlete of the Week- Ethan Anderson (Jr.), WPI
 
Junior Ethan Anderson (North Haven, Conn.) turned in a dominant all-around performance in the throws at the Springfield College Classic, sweeping the shot put (15.22m), discus (49.02m), and hammer throw (50.10m). The senior currently ranks first in the NEWMAC in both the shot put and discus, including a discus mark that sits 18th nationally, while also ranking second in the conference in the hammer. His trio of victories led a strong showing for WPI in the field events.
 
Relay Team of the Week- 4 X 100, WPI
 
The foursome of Sam Manteria (Wilbraham, Mass.), Ethan Schnyer (Nashua, N.H.), Justin Serrecchia (Lakeville, Mass.), and Alex Cole (Weymouth, Mass.) captured first place at the Springfield College Classic with a season-best time of 41.43, which ranks first in the NEWMAC and 18th nationally. The quartet delivered a clean and efficient race to secure their second victory in as many weeks this season.
 
Track Athlete of the Week- Jake Cobb (Sr.), MIT
 
Senior Jake Cobb (West Deptford, N.J.) ran 9:09.15 in the 3000m Steeplechase at Princeton's Sam Howell Invitational, finishing seventh overall and first among Division III runners at the cross-divisional meet. Cobb's time is the fourth-fastest steeplechase in Division III this season and the fastest in the East Region following this weekend's competition.

Women's Track & Field
 
Field Athlete of the Week- Allie Wildsmith (Sr.), U.S. Coast Guard Academy

Senior Allie Wildsmith (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) delivered a standout performance at the Coast Guard Invitational, winning the high jump with a mark of 1.71 meters to set a new facility record. Her clearance is tied for second nationally this season, highlighting her as one of the top performers in Division III. Wildsmith's record-setting jump led the Bears on their home track and underscored an impressive early-season showing.

Relay Team of the Week- 4 X 100, Wheaton College
 
Seniors Wendy Wooden (Sharon, Mass.) and Michaina Loriston (Boston, Mass.) joined with junior Camille Connors (Woburn, Mass.) and senior Kate Wickenheisser (Oxford, Conn.) to combine on a time of 46.76 to win the 4X100-meter relay at the Emory Dooley Elite meet on April 4 in Atlanta, Ga. to rank as the sixth-fastest time in school history and the fourth-fastest in NCAA Division III this season.
 
Track Athlete of the Week- Katherine DeFosse (Jr.), Springfield College
 
Junior Katherine DeFosse (Worcester, Mass.) recorded a pair of wins on Saturday at the SC Outdoor Classic, including a time of 14.32 in the 100-meter hurdles, which ranks seventh in Division III this season. DeFosse also teamed up with the 4x100-meter relay for a time of 48.62 seconds, almost a second and a half faster than the quartet from WPI.
