No. 1 MIT and No. 2 Babson to Face Off in NEWMAC Men's Tennis Championship

NEWMAC men's tennis championship action continued on Saturday afternoon with semifinal matches. No. 1 seed MIT defeated no. 4 seed Clark 5-0, while no. 2 seed Babson ousted no. 3 seed Coast Guard 5-1.

The Engineers and the Beavers will face off on Sunday, April 28th at noon for the NEWMAC championship

GAME ONE: MIT 5, Clark 0
MIT raced out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Senior Kailas Kahler (Pawtucket, R.I.) and first-year Adam Sun (Glendale, Ariz.) kicked off doubles with an 8-2 win in three doubles. Seniors Joseph Li (Naperville, Ill.) and Sundeep Chakladar (Redondo Beach, Calif.) earned an 8-4 win in No. 2 doubles, and graduate student Daniel Papacica (Carmel, Calif.) and first-year Grant Gallagher (Irvine, Calif.) wrapped up doubles with an 8-4 win in No. 1 doubles.
 
First-year Shrish Choudhary (Fremont, Calif.) put MIT up 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win in No. 6 singles, and first-year Siddharth Marathe (Pune, India) won the match for MIT with a 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 5 singles.

GAME TWO: Babson 5, Coast Guard 1
Babson Park, Mass. - Graduate student Andrew Watson (Charlottesville, Va.) earned points in singles and doubles to help 29th-ranked Babson College defeat the Coast Guard Academy, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Babson Tennis Courts. 

The second-seeded Beavers recorded their seventh consecutive victory to improve to 14-8 overall while advancing to the conference tournament final for the ninth time in the last 10 tries. The third-seeded Bears see their season come to a close at 10-6. 

Junior Wesley Zhang (Staten Island, N.Y.) and first-year Caymus Choi (Hong Kong, China) gave Babson the first point of the afternoon with an 8-2 win at number three doubles. Watson and graduate student Jonah Wilson (Gilbert, Ariz.) followed with an 8-6 triumph over Ben Bonetto (Bend, Ore.) and Sean Dreher (Harker Heights, Texas) at number two before Coast Guard picked up its lone point of the match as Myles DeCoste (Stuart, Fla.) and Charles Norman (Aurora, Ohio) edged the Beavers' duo of junior Ole Lepsoe (Oslo, Norway) and first-year Logan Back (Busan, South Korea) 8-5 at number one. 

Senior Jose Gonzalez (Mexico City, Mexico) defeated Brendan Love (Winchester, Va.) 6-2, 6-0 at number six singles, while Watson recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Logan De Los Santos (Tula, Okla.) at number five to give the Green and White a 4-1 advantage in the match. First-year Kerem Ozlale (Istanbul, Turkey) secured the clinching point with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Norman at number two singles. 

Wilson was up a set and tied at 5-5 in the second against Lacoste at number one, Lepsoe won a first-set tiebreaker at number three and Choi and Bonetto were tied at a set apiece at number four when the match was decided.
