WESTWOOD, Mass. - The NEWMAC is excited to announce the Women’s Tennis 25-Year All-NEWMAC Team, in recognition of the historic 25th Anniversary season. A total of 23 student-athletes have been recognized, as announced by the conference office on Thursday. The honored team was voted on by the membership.
A total of seven institutions were represented on the team, with MIT leading the way with 11 honorees. Next was Wellesley with four, followed by Babson and Wheaton, who each had three honorees. Clark, Mount Holyoke and Smith rounded out the selections with one selection each.
The team features 15 Athlete of the Year honorees, seven of which were multi-year recipients. Combined, the group earned a total of 66 first team All-NEWMAC nods. There are also 10 All-American performers within the group.
MIT’s
Carol Matsuzaki was voted as the top coach from the past 25 years. Matsuzaki has led the Engineers for 25 years, earning NEWMAC Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year honors 11 times. Matsuzaki is the winningest coach in MIT women’s tennis history, with a career dual match record of 318-130, leading her squad to 12 NEWMAC titles. She was named the ITA Northeast Regional Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2018. She was also named the 2018 ITA Division III National Coach of the Year.

The women’s tennis 25-Year All-NEWMAC Team was voted on by current women’s tennis coaches and sports information directors at the conference's nine member institutions. Voters were asked to rank student-athletes and were not allowed to vote for members or coaches from their own institution. To be eligible for the 25th anniversary team, student-athletes must have been recognized on the NEWMAC First-Team All-Conference team at least twice, and/or earned Player of the Year honors. Coaches must have coached in the NEWMAC for a minimum of 10 seasons.

About the NEWMAC
