Sarah Pertsemlidis (Coppell, Texas) fell to No. 4 seeded
Eleni Lazaridou of Kenyon College by a 4-6, 7-5, 6-7 (2) final on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first set, Lazaridou took a lead at 3-2 on a service break and went on to win the opening set by a 6-4 margin. In the second set, Pertsemlidis and Lazaridou traded service breaks in nearly every game before Pertsemlidis held at 6-5 and finished the set off for the 7-5 victory.
- That set the stage for an epic third set that was ultimately decided in a tiebreaker. With Lazaridou holding a 4-2 edge, Pertsemlidis came roaring back and took three straight games to take a 5-4 lead in the deciding set. The set eventually ended up in a tiebreaker as Lazaridou jumped out to a 5-1 lead before taking the tiebreak by a 7-2 final.
- Pertsemlidis ends her MIT career as a two-time NCAA Singles All-American after she also became the first MIT player in program history to reach the semifinals of the NCAA Singles Tournament in 2022.
