NEWMAC Announces 2023 Women's Tennis Championship; Babson Claims Top Seed

WESTWOOD, Mass. –
 With the conclusion of the regular season this afternoon, the NEWMAC has announced the seeds for the 2023 Women's Tennis Championship bracket. The championship tournament will consist of six teams that will compete for the NEWMAC title, with matches beginning on Tuesday, April 25th.

Babson claimed the top seed and regular season title with a perfect 8-0 record and collect hosting rights for the semifinals and final rounds. MIT (7-1) clinched the No. 2 seed, while Wellesley (6-2) finished as the No. 3 seed, followed by Springfield (5-3) as the No. 4 seed, with both teams hosting an opening round match. Smith (4-4) claimed the No. 5 seed followed by Mount Holyoke (3-5) securing the final seed in the tournament at No. 6.

For the opening matches on Tuesday, the sixth-seeded Mount Holyoke Lyons will head to the third-seeded Wellesley Blue, as the fifth-seeded Smith Pioneers will travel to the fourth-seeded Springfield Pride. 

Top-seeded Babson will host the winner of the match between No. 5 Smith and No. 4 Springfield on Saturday, April 29th, while the winner of No. 6 Mount Holyoke and No. 3 Wellesley match will travel to second-seeded MIT.

The winners of each semifinal contest will meet in the championship game on Sunday, April 30th at Babson.

No. 5 Smith at No. 4 Springfield – 3:30 p.m.

No. 6 Mount Holyoke at No. 3 Wellesley - 4:00 p.m.

Semifinals - Saturday, April 29th - at Highest Seeds

No. 5 Smith at No. 1 Babson – 11:30 a.m.

No. 3 Wellesley at No. 2 MIT – TBA

Final - Sunday, April 30th - at Babson

Semifinal Winners – 12:00 p.m.
