NEWMAC Recognizes 2022-23 Men's Basketball Postseason Accolades, WPI Named Coaching Staff of the Year

WESTWOOD, Mass. - The NEWMAC  has released the 2022-23 Men's Basketball postseason major and All-Conference awards after a competitive season between the league's eight teams. 

After another impressive season on both ends of the floor, Emerson's Jarred Houston was selected as both the Athlete of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. The graduate student led the Lions to the No. 2 seed in the NEWMAC Tournament. In his dominant 2022-23 campaign  the center averaged a double double and ranked second in the conference in points (19.4) and in shooting percentage from the field (60.7%), first in rebounds (13.0) and blocks (3.7) per game, and eleventh in assists (3.2) per game. 

MIT's Rome Delgado-Gonzalez, earned Rookie of the Year accolades for a fantastic showing throughout his first season. In conference play, the first-year finished first in minutes per game (37.9) and free throw percentage (87.1), second in steals per game (1.9), third in points per game (18.5), seventh in assists per game (3.4), eighth in rebounds per game (6.8), and  ninth in blocks per game (0.8).

The coaching staff at WPI were named the Coaching Staff of the Year. The staff is led by head coach Chris Bartley and assistant coaches Riley Naclerio, David Brown, Jacob Ashworth and Kahleb Downing. The leaders brought the Engineers to the top seed in the NEWMAC Tournament and to a near perfect conference record of 13-1.  

The NEWMAC Men's Basketball All-Conference Team consists of a first and second team of five selections which are voted on by the eight head men's basketball coaches. The 2022-23  selections are listed below.
