The MIT women’s soccer team picked up its ninth straight shutout and 17th clean sheet of the fall season in a 3-0 NEWMAC quarterfinal victory over eighth-seeded Springfield on Tuesday night. The first 45 minutes were scoreless, but MIT scored twice just over a minute apart early in the second to break things open. Claire Zhang (Charlotte, N.C.) finished a ball from Skye Williams (Tallahassee, Fla.) for the first goal of the contest before Arianna Doss (Houston, Texas) produced her 11th goal of the season to put the Engineers ahead 2-0. Leah Berey (West Hartford, Conn.) added an insurance goal with just six minutes left in the contest as MIT will once again make its way to the NEWMAC semifinal round. MIT has now won ten straight conference tournament games dating back to 2023 and will be represented in the semifinals for the 20th time. It will be a battle of the Engineers on Thursday as WPI advanced past Wellesley tonight in penalty kicks.

No. 2 Salve Regina University 2, No. 7 Clark University 1

Salve Regina entered halftime trailing 1-0 after Caroline Knecht (Scottsdale, Ariz.) gave Clark an early lead just 14 minutes into the first stanza. The Seahawks wasted little time out of the break scoring both of their goals in a span of 2:54 to forge ahead 2-1. Tori Spadavecchia (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) found the equalizer just 3:37 into the second half before Allie Gallagher (Staten Island, N.Y.) ripped a shot off a feed from Paige Jessuck (Waterford, Conn.) for what proved to be the game winning goal. Salve Regina goalkeeper Sabrina Lawless (Milford, Conn.) made four second half saves to preserve the 2-1 win for the Seahawks. Today was Salve Regina’s first-ever NEWMAC Women’s Soccer playoff game and the Seahawks will advance to Thursday’s semifinal for the first time in program history. Salve Regina will meet sixth-seeded Babson College on Thursday at 1:00 pm looking to avenge a 4-2 loss to the Beavers back on October 14.

No. 6 Babson College 3, No. 3 Wheaton College 2 (OT)

Third-seeded Wheaton College scored twice in the first ten minutes of regulation on goals from Karina Contreras (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Maya Thomas (Goffstown, N.H.) outshooting sixth-seeded Babson, 15-4, over the opening half. Babson wasted little time as just five minutes into the second, Lillian McAughan (Bellevue, Wash.) cut Wheaton’s lead in half as she finished a pass from Priscilla-Rose Men-Martin (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.). The score stood the same until there was 90 seconds remaining in regulation. The Beavers were awarded a penalty kick and Men-Martin roped it into the bottom left corner for the equalizer sending the quarterfinal matchup into overtime. It took just three minutes of overtime to decide a winner as Josie Lee (Duxbury, Mass.) knocked the ball into the right corner of the net off a long shot from outside the box as Babson won it, 3-2. Over the course of 93 minutes today, Babson outshot Wheaton, 36-8, had nine corners and saw Callahan Cottone (Medway, Mass.) make six stops between the pipes. Babson will meet Salve Regina on Thursday in the NEWMAC semifinals. Earlier this year, Babson defeated the Seahawks, 4-2, in Babson Park.
