Marlborough, Mass. - October 31, 2026 - The 2026 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s soccer regular season has been completed and the eight-team NEWMAC Championship Tournament field has been set.
MIT, ranked fifth in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Division III national poll, won the 2026 NEWMAC Women's Soccer Regular Season title outright for the ninth consecutive season and for the 12th time in program history with an unblemished conference record of 11-0-0. Since the start of the 2012 season, MIT women's soccer has an astonishing record of 128-8-7 (.895 winning percentage) all under head coach Martin Desmarais.
The top-seeded Engineers will host eighth-seeded Springfield College on Tuesday, November 3 at 7:00 pm. During the regular season, MIT defeated the Pride by a score of 6-0. Springfield earned the eighth seed after sporting a record 4-6-1 in conference play. MIT and Springfield are no strangers in postseason meetings as the two sides have met 12 times, most recently in last year's NEWMAC Women's Soccer Championship final.
Salve Regina claimed the second seed in this year's tournament field and will be making its debut in the NEWMAC Championship as the Seahawks joined the conference at the start of the 2023 season. Salve Regina, which ended the regular season with a 7-2-2 mark in NEWMAC games will host seventh-seeded Clark University at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 3 on Reynolds Field in Newport. Salve Regina and Clark (4-4-3 NEWMAC) met just four days ago in Rhode Island where the Seahawks came away with a 3-1 win. The Cougars are making their first trip to the postseason since 2023.
Wheaton claimed the third seed after sporting a 7-2-2 record in NEWMAC matches this fall. The Lyons tied Salve Regina, 1-1, on Saturday to conclude the regular season but earned the right to host sixth-seeded Babson College in a Tuesday quarterfinal matchup at Mirrione Stadium at 2:00 pm. The Beavers wrapped up their regular season at 4-3-4 after a 2-0 road win at Emerson on Saturday afternoon. Wheaton and Babson just met last Saturday and the Lyons came out with the 2-1 win over the Beavers. Babson has appeared in all 27 NEWMAC Championship Tournaments dating back to 1998, while Wheaton has missed the postseason just one time (2023) in the 27 year history of the NEWMAC.
WPI will be the fourth seed in this year's NEWMAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament after going 7-2-2 in NEWMAC play this fall. WPI, Salve Regina and Wheaton all ended with identical records, but the order of 2. Salve Regina, 3. Wheaton, 4. WPI was detemined after using the conferences tie-breaker protocols. The Engineers will host fifth-seeded Wellesley College (4-3-4 NEWMAC) on Tuesday in a quarterfinal tilt in Worcester at 6:00 pm. Wellesley and WPI previously met in Wellesley on October 14 where the Engineers blanked the Blue 1-0.
A champion will be crowned on Saturday, November 7 at the site of the highest remaining seed. The winner will receive the NEWMAC's automatic berth to the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer National Championship Tournament.
MIT will enter next week's tournament as winners of seven of the last eight NEWMAC women's soccer titles. Since the NEWMAC began in 1998, MIT has claimed ten of 27 championship titles. The second most NEWMAC Championships belongs to Springfield and Wheaton - both with seven - followed by Emerson, Wellesley and Babson all with one.
All games next week will be streamed on FloCollege. If you haven't done so already, you can purchase your subscription here: flosports.link/464f4pc.
If attending games on campus, all tickets will be $10. NEWMAC students will be admitted free of charge with the proof of a student ID.
