Babson's Baroni, WPI's Lakin Named NFHCA National Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.  —  Penny Baroni (Dennis, Mass.), a sophomore forward/midfielder from Babson College, and Myles Lakin (Reading, Mass.), a sophomore goalkeeper from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), have been named this week’s NFHCA Division III Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.

The announcement comes after Baroni and Lakin were named NEWMAC Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Baroni produced four goals and one assist for nine points and was involved in all but one of No. 7 Babson's goals in two wins over the weekend. She recorded her first career hat trick and scored the game winner in Friday's 4-3 victory at Endicott and then followed up a first-half assist by converting a penalty stroke with just over 10 minutes to go to help the Beavers defeat No. 22 Swarthmore 2-1 on Sunday.

Lakin backstopped the Engineers to a perfect 2-0 opening week with a pair of shutouts on the road. Lakin played all 120 minutes in net without conceding a goal, turning aside all 14 shots on goal faced for a flawless 1.000 save percentage. The sophomore was instrumental in Friday's 2-0 victory at Roger Williams, making seven saves, including five in the opening quarter, to keep the Hawks off the board during an early surge. Lakin followed that performance with another seven-save effort on Sunday at the University of New England, highlighted by clutch stops on penalty corners in both halves, to preserve a 1-0 decision. Through two games, the sophomore netminder owns a perfect 0.00 goals-against average and two clean sheets, anchoring a WPI defense that has held opponents scoreless. At the same time, the Engineers outscored their foes 3-0 to begin the 2025 campaign.
