Marlborough, Mass. – The NEWMAC has released its 2025 Men's Lacrosse postseason awards, as announced by the conference on Thursday afternoon. The awards are determined by the conference's eight coaches following the conclusion of regular season play.
Attack
Jake Degnan (Mahopac, N.Y.) of Springfield College was voted NEWMAC Athlete of the Year, while teammate
Jackson Lane (Shrewsbury, Mass.) earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. U.S. Coast Guard Academy's
Ezekiel Christian (Stonington, Conn.) earned Rookie of the Year honors. The Springfield coaching staff was voted Coaching Staff of the Year by their peers.
Degnan headlines the first team selections at the attack position and is joined by Salve Regina University's
Daniel Naglieri (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) and Babson College's
Seamus Rooney (Bay Shore, N.Y.). Babson's
Topher Bower (Chicago, Ill.), MIT's
Zach Bleil (New Canaan, Conn.), Salve's
Chris Koltzan (East Quogue, N.Y.) and Springfield's
Brady Soldo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) fill out the midfield selections. Babson's
Brendan Maher (Melrose, Mass.) and
Tripp Clark (Byfield, Mass.) were awarded spots at the defender slot, as was Springfield's
Toby Oliveira (Little Compton, R.I.). Springfield's
Gavin Carzello (Westfield, Mass.) was honored as a long stick midfielder, while teammate
Jackson Lane (Shrewsbury, Mass.) earned the nod as a short stick defender. Coast Guard's
Mason Tucker (Alpharetta, Ga.) was awarded as the face-off specialist.
Alex Fascilla (Huntington, N.Y.) of Babson rounds out the first team selections in the goalkeeper position.
Emerson College's
Jack Burns (Clarksville, Md.), MIT's
Nick Stiles (New Canaan, Conn.), Springfield's
Kevin Tierney (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Coast Guard's
Eric Key (Clarksville, Md.) fill out the second team attack positions. Babson's
Bennett Smith (Lake Oswego, Ore.) made the team as a midfielder, along with MIT's
Garrett Campagna (Lancaster, Pa.) and Coast Guard's
Ryan Hunter (Bethesda, Md.). MIT placed
Brennan Hoppa (Hampstead, N.H.) in the defender slot, who is joined by Salve's
Gavin Johnson (Moorestown, N.J.), Springfield's
Angus Oliviera (Little Compton, R.I.) and Coast Guard's
Nick Butler (Northport, N.Y.). Salve's
Jack Naglieri (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) was the long stick midfielder selection and Babson's
Sammy Kalishman (Clarksville, Md.) was the short stick selection. Three face-off specialists made the team,
Will Reading of Babson (Southlake, Texas),
Justin Haverly (Clifton Park, N.Y.) of Salve and
Vincent Scialdone (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) of Springfield. Springfield's
Kaden Quirk (Nahant, Mass.) wraps up the selections at the goalkeeper spot.
Athlete of the Year- Jake Degnan (So., A), Springfield College
Degnan leads all scorers in conference play with 28 points. He has compiled a league-leading 19 goals in conference play, to go along with nine assists. Overall, he has tallied 40 goals, good for third in the league. He's also a fierce rider with 20 ground balls and four caused turnovers, helping the Pride to an undefeated regular season conference slate.
Defensive Player of the Year – Jackson Lane (Gr., SSDM), Springfield College
Jackson Lane has scooped up 51 ground balls and caused 14 turnovers, six of which came in conference play. The captain takes every wing and is the leader of the Pride defense in the middle of the field. He also chipped in two goals and two assists. He helped the Pride to a 7-0 league record.
Rookie of the Year- Ezekiel Christian (Fy., A), U.S. Coast Guard Academy
Christian started all 15 games for the Bears, and leads NEWMAC rookies with 35 goals, which was good for eighth in the league.14 of those goals came in league play, which is top-ten in the NEWMAC. He is sixth in the league with 22 assists, 12 in conference play, which was second-best. He is fifth in the league with 57 points overall, and fourth with 26 points in league play. He scooped up 18 ground balls, and caused four turnovers.
Coaching Staff of the Year – Springfield College
Springfield went undefeated in league play at 7-0 for the first time since 2016, securing the regular season crown and the top seed in the NEWMAC Championship. Springfield is under the direction of head coach
