Marlborough, Mass.- The NEWMAC has announced its Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending 4/6/25. The full list of honorees can be found below.
Baseball
Athlete of the Week- John Spivey (Fy., CF), MIT
MIT first year centerfielder
John Spivey (St. Louis, Mo.) hit .692, totaling 9 hits in 12 at-bats with a 1.769 slugging percentage to lead MIT to a 3-0 week that included a victory over No. 24 Babson and a pair of wins over WPI. Spivey scored nine runs and had 12 RBIs, two doubles and four home runs. He had multiple hits in all three games, none bigger than Friday's game against WPI where Spivey hit a career best there home runs and had eight RBIs for the Engineers.
Pitcher of the Week- Aiden Cardoza (So., P), Wheaton College
In his only appearance of the week, the Tommy Burns (Dartmouth, Mass.) hurled six shutout innings and allowed just one hit and three walks to go with a pair of strikeouts and held opposing hitters to a miniscule .056 (1-18) batting mark in a victory over Emerson College on April 4.
Men's Lacrosse
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Jake Degnan (So., A), Springfield College
Jake Degnan (Mohopac, N.Y.) led Springfield to a 2-0 week with wins over Western New England and Clark University as the sophomore attack totaled six goals and three assists for nine points for the Pride. Degnan registered four of Springfield's nine goals in a 9-7 win against the Golden Bears and then helped the Pride improve its record to 4-0 in NEWMAC play with two goals and three assists (five points) in a 17-5 victory on the road at Clark on Saturday.
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Alex Fascilla (Sr., GK), Babson College
Alex Fascilla (Huntington, N.Y.) went 2-0 with a 4.08 goals against average and stopped 23 of 30 shots for a .767 save percentage in two games for No. 20 Babson. He saved 11 of 15 shots in Tuesday’s 19-6 rout of UMass Boston and followed it up with 12 saves and a career-high eight ground balls in Friday’s 15-3 road victory over Emerson.
Face-Off Specialist of the Week – Justin Haverly (Sr., FOS), Salve Regina University
Senior
Justin Haverly (Clifton Park, N.Y.), helped the Seahawks secure an overtime, conference victory over the weekend. The specialist was 11-16 (69%) with 8 groundballs while winning the OT faceoff & groundball which possession led to Salve’s 11-10 golden goal victory vs. Wheaton College six seconds into overtime.
Women's Lacrosse
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Clare Connolly (Sr., M), Babson College
Clare Connolly (Hanover, Mass.) finished the week with nine goals and 42 draw controls on the way to becoming the all-time Division III leader as No. 14/16 cruised to a pair of conference wins. She scored twice while securing 18 draws in Wednesday’s 20-4 victory at Clark and followed it up with career-highs of seven goals and 24 draw controls in Saturday’s 19-7 win at Salve Regina. Connolly’s 643 draw controls surpassed the previous Division III record of 637 held by Emily Wadds of Wittenberg.
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Brooke Testa (Jr. GK), Smith College
In a 2-0 week for Brooke Testa (Pittstown, N.J.) and Smith, Testa made 17 saves to boast a .680 save percentage on the week with a 5.33 GAA. Against Salve Regina, Testa made an impressive 14 saves on 22 shots faced, with a save percentage of .778. She also picked up the win against Clark on Saturday afternoon in a 17-9 victory recording three saves in 30 minutes of work.

WPI Varsity Eight
The Engineers’ varsity eight, ranked ninth in the most recent Pocock CRCA Poll Top 15, finished ahead of seventh-ranked Smith in the Jennifer McLaughlin Cup on Saturday morning on Lake Quinsigamond. The WPI entry of coxswain

Jules Prisco (Pelham, NY) placed second overall behind second-ranked Wesleyan (7:27.93) as they reached the finish line in a time of 7:27.90, edging the Pioneers (7:28.58) by 1.68 seconds.
Softball
Athlete of the Week- Ella Molinari (So., SS), Wheaton College
In six games, the
Ella Molinari (Grafton, Mass.) was outstanding, hitting .579 (11-19) with eight runs batted in, while smacking three doubles and two triples to go with a home run, five runs scored, a walk and a stolen base. The shortstop put together and astounding 1.101 slugging percentage and owned a .571 on-base mark to produce an eye-popping 1.672 OPS. Molinari hit safely in all six games, including four multi-hit efforts. She began the week by going 5-7 with a double, a triple and a walk in a twinbill with Johnson & Wales University on April 1. The middle infielder knocked in five runs in a doubledip at Smith College on April 4 after going 4-6 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and a stolen base. She capped the week by extending her hitting streak to nine straight with a pair of 1-3 efforts against Clark University on April 6, including a triple and a home run to drive in three runs and score twice.
Pitcher of the Week- Megan Dube (So., P), Clark University
Megan Dube (Leominster, Mass.) posted a 3-0 record on the bump this week while posting a 0.37 ERA, three complete games, and two shutouts across 19.0 innings pitched. The sophomore opened her week with 5.0 innings pitched, no earned runs, and seven strikeouts as the Cougars beat Fitchburg State 8-0 in five innings. In a 1-0 NEWMAC victory over Coast Guard, Dube tossed another shutout, only allowed four hits, and struck out four batters. The sophomore closed out her week with a complete game against Wheaton in which she only allowed one run and struck out four batters in the Cougars 2-1 victory.
Men's Tennis
Singles Player of the Week – Brady Anderson (Sr.), Babson College
Brady Anderson (Rochester, N.Y.) went 2-0 at number two singles to help No. 11 Babson take over first place in the NEWMAC standings with a pair of wins. He cruised past Brendan Love of Coast Guard 6-2, 6-1 on Tuesday and followed it up with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Ryan Xiao of MIT in Friday’s 5-2 triumph.
Doubles Team of the Week – Ole Lepsoe & Alex Merson, Babson College
Ole Lepsoe (Oslo, Norway) and
Alex Merson (Palisades Park, N.J.) went 2-0 at number one doubles as No. 11 Babson took over first place in the NEWMAC standings with back-to-back victories. The Beavers’ top doubles pairing downed Ben Bonetto and Brendan Love of Coast Guard 6-3 in Tuesday’s 7-0 win and then blanked Grant Gallagher and SangHyuk Im 6-0 as the Beavers defeated MIT, 5-2, on Friday.
Women's Tennis
Singles Player of the Week –
Olivia Soffer (Sr.), Babson College
Olivia Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) recorded a pair of dominating wins at number one singles as No. 14 Babson produced a pair of 7-0 wins. She beat Abigail Miner of Emerson 6-0, 6-0 on Friday and followed it up with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Jade Finestone of No. 29 Colby on Saturday.
Doubles Team of the Week – Suzanne Xu & Sophie Buttorff, Wellesley College
Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) and
Sophie Buttorff (Tacoma, Wash.) went 2-0 in doubles for the Blue this past week. The duo started the weekend by taking down Salve Regina, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles. The pair then earned an impressive 6-2 victory over No. 20 NYU at the third doubles line on Sunday.
Men's Track & Field
Field Athlete of the Week – Gavin Fleck (So.), WPI
Gavin Fleck (Bend, Ore.) claimed his first event title of the spring in the Pole Vault as he cleared 4.70 meters at the Springfield College Classic on Sunday besting his nearest opponent by 0.45 meters to collect 10 points and help the Crimson and Gray to the meet victory. The 4.70 meter mark is the best in the NCAA Division III East region and is tied for 23rd in the country.
Relay Team of the Week – 4x100, WPI
The Engineers 4x100-meter relay foursome of
Sam Manteria (Wilbraham, MA),
Tristan Andrew (Newtown, CT),
Alex Cole (Weymouth, MA), and
Ethan Schnyer (Nashua, NH) turned in a time of 41.46 to not only capture the event for the Crimson and Gray at the Springfield College Classic on Sunday but equaled the WPI school record established in 2019.
Track Athlete of the Week- Mike Anderson (So.), Springfield College
Sophomore
Mike Anderson (Cromwell, Conn.) registered a first place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (14.74) and a third place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (57.17) to lead Springfield College to a runner-up finish at the SC Outdoor Classic on Sunday. Anderson's 110-meter hurdle prelim time of 14.57 is currently ranked 12th in all of Division III men's track and field this season.
Women's Track & Field
Field Athlete of the Week – Allie Wildsmith (Jr.), U.S. Coast Guard Academy
Junior Allie Wildsmith (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) won the High Jump event at CGA Invite clearing a height of 1.71 meters. She is ranked second in the NCAA with the jump, and is first in the conference in the event.
Relay Team of the Week – 4X100, Wheaton College

Inez Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) and junior
Michaina Loriston (Boston, Mass.) combined on a time of 47.40 in the 4X100 relay at the Emory Dooley Elite Meet in Atlanta, GA on April 5. The time is currently the 13th-fastest in the nation in NCAA Division III.
Track Athlete of the Week – Michaina Loriston (Jr.), Wheaton College
Junior
Michaina Loriston (Boston, Mass.) placed fourth at the Emory Dooley Elite Meet on April 5 in Atlanta, GA with a time of 11.97 for the 15th-fastest time in the nation in the 100 meters.
