WPI Takes Early Lead on First Day of NEWMAC Men's Track & Field Championships; Wheaton's Scott Sloan Breaks Meet Record in Javelin

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – April 25, 2025 – WPI scored 52 points on day one of the 2025 NEWMAC Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships to jump out to an early lead on Friday afternoon at Mount Holyoke College.

Highlighting day one was Scott Sloan of Wheaton smashing the meet javelin record by 3.12 meters at 66.53 meters (218'3").

Behind WPI (52 points) in the team standings is MIT (39), Babson (30), Coast Guard (27), Springfield (24), and Wheaton (22).

Below are the event-by-event results. The top two finishers in each event earn NEWMAC All-Conference honors.

Javelin Throw

Long Jump

Nathan Shapiro (MIT) -- 6.85 meters (22'5.75")

Kelvin Peterson (Wheaton) -- 6.79 meters (22'3.5")

 

Leading the way in the decathlon through five events is Justin Manning from Springfield College with 3,000 points. The 110-meter hurdles saw Michael Anderson (14.30) of Springfield and Enoch Ellis (14.34) of MIT as the top-two qualifiers for tomorrow’s final, while Patrick Haertel (10.64) of MIT and Alex Cole (10.69) of WPI are the top-two seeds in the 100-meter dash following today’s preliminary heats.

Day two of the 2025 NEWMAC Track and Field Championships will begin on Saturday, April 26 at 10:30 am with the decathlon men’s 110-meter hurdles.
