NEWMAC Announces Athlete of the Week Honorees (week ending March 23)

Marlborough, Mass.- The NEWMAC has announced its Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending 3/23/25.  The full list of honorees can be found below.
 
Baseball
 
Athlete of the Week- Billy Sullivan (Gr., 2B), Clark University
 
Graduate student Billy Sullivan (Hicksville, N.Y.)  led the team this week posting a .714 batting average, went 10-14, six RBI's, four runs, two stolen bases, and a homer in three games this week. In the Cougars 8-1 victory over RIC, Sullivan went 5-5 with three RBI's, a homer, scored two runs, and stole a base. Sullivan then went 2-3 with a run scored and a stolen base in an 11-5 win against St. Joe's (Me.). He ended his week with a 3-6 effort, three RBI's, tripled, and scored a run against Mitchell.
 
Pitcher of the Week- Mason Estrada (So., P), MIT
 
Sophomore Mason Estrada (Covington, La.) pitched the first 5.0 innings of MIT's combined seven inning no-hitter against Bates on Saturday. Estrada struck out 12 of the 17 batters he faced, walking one and hitting one, without giving up a hit or a run to earn his first victory of the season. Estrada now has 21 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched this season.
 
Men’s Lacrosse

Offensive Athlete of the Week- Camden Matthews (So., A), Babson College

Sophomore Camden Matthews (Westford, Mass.) produced nine goals and two assists for 11 points to go along with four ground balls in a 2-0 week for Babson. He had two goals, two assists and a season-high three ground balls in Tuesday’s 14-9 victory over No. 14 Middlebury and pumped in a career-high seven goals in Saturday’s 15-14 win over MIT. He scored four times in the fourth quarter, including the tying goal with 2:11 left and the game-winner with 2.7 seconds to go. 

Defensive Athlete of the Week- Jack Naglieri (Sr., D), Salve Regina University 

Senior Jack Naglieri (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) had 14 ground balls and eight caused turnovers in a 2-0 week for the Seahawks. He had seven ground balls and four caused turnovers in a 18-11 victory over Mass Maritime, and then matched his effort in a 13-7 victory over Clark. Naglieri covers the top offensive threat each game at midfield, leading the Seahawks to a NEWMAC best 7.40 GAA.

Face-Off Specialist of the Week – Dominic Savastano (Fy., FO), Springfield College

First year Dominic Savastano (South Salem, N.Y.) was dominant at the face-off, going 11-for-14 for Springfield in a 20-6 win over Emerson on Saturday. Savastano also registered a team-best nine ground balls as Springfield went on to win 20 of the contested 30 face-offs against the Lions.
 
Women’s Lacrosse

Offensive Athlete of the Week- Emi Bisson (Jr., A/M), Mount Holyoke College

Junior Emi Bisson (Chester, Conn.) set two Mount Holyoke scoring records with 13 assists and 15 points in the Lyons' 19-18 win at Emerson on Saturday. Bisson's 13 assists are three more than any other Division III player this season, and they tie as the fourth most in Division III history. Bisson also had nine draw controls in the game. Bisson had 4 goals and 1 assist at Hood, and then chipped in two assists at Marymount to total 22 points on the week.

Defensive Athlete of the Week- Kathleen Murphy (Sr., GK), Babson College  

Senior Kathleen Murphy (Scarborough, Maine) was terrific in three starts going 2-1 with 25 saves, a 9.60 goals against average, and a .510 save percentage to go along with 10 ground balls and five caused turnovers for No. 13/16 Babson. She made six saves and added season highs of six ground balls and two caused turnovers in Tuesday’s 16-7 win at Roger Williams and made four first-half saves as the Beavers built a 10-goal lead in Saturday’s 17-11 victory at Smith. Murphy wrapped up the week by matching her career high with 15 saves to go along with two ground balls and two caused turnovers in Sunday’s 13-7 loss at No. 15/18 Trinity. 
 
Softball
 
Athlete of the Week- Anisa Rodriguez (So., UTL), Wellesley College  
 
Sophomore Anisa Rodriguez (La Quinta, Calif.) was key offensively and defensively in Florida for the Blue. The sophomore hit 11-for-21 (.524) with 10 RBI's, one home run, a triple, a double, seven runs scored, and an .810 slugging percentage. Defensively, Rodriguez threw out three runners stealing without allowing a stolen base. The highlight of the trip for Rodriguez was a six RBI game with a homer and three hits in a 19-7 victory over Bates. 
 
Pitcher of the Week- Caleigh Sheehan (So., P), Emerson College
 
Sophomore Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) tossed a pair of complete games and went 2-0 in the pitcher's circle with a 1.00 ERA on the week. She pitched 14.0 innings and racked up 20 strikeouts, allowing opponents to hit only .160 with no extra base hits.
 
Men’s Tennis
 
Singles Player of the Week – Edward Wang (Fy.), Babson College
 
First year Edward Wang (Burr Ridge, Ill.) went 4-0 with one win at number two singles and three at number three in a 5-1 week for No. 18 Babson. He downed Gurv Suri of No. 31 Salisbury 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 at number three on Monday, was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Aiden Klass at number three in a win over No. 33 Grinnell on Tuesday and rallied for a 2-6, 6-0, 6-4 triumph over Bohdlan Zhylchuck of No. 24 North Carolina Wesleyan on Thursday. Wang wrapped up the week with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Andy Hess of No. 32 Chapman at number three singles. 

Doubles Team of the Week – Brady Anderson & Sebastian Mendoza, Babson College
 
Anderson and Mendoza went 4-1 at number two doubles to help No. 18 Babson win five of six matches last week in southern California. The Beavers’ duo posted 6-3 victories over Gianluca Beaujon and Mitch Desman of No. 31 Salisuby, Artem Manov and Charles Rush of Whiteman and Sam Rudenberg and Wilder Booke of No. 33 Grinnell. They also followed up a 6-4 loss to Martin Cardestig and Bernardo Messineo of No. 24 North Carolina Wesleyan on Thursday with a 6-3 win over Ian Jordan and Lachlan Dickinson of No. 35 Chapman on Friday.
 
Women’s Tennis
 
Singles Player of the WeekMatia Cristiani (Jr.), Babson College
 
Junior Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) went 3-0 at number two singles with a trio of straight-set wins for No. 17 Babson. She defeated 47th-ranked Elsie Van Wieren of No. 8 Middlebury 7-5, 6-4 on Wednesday, downed Kiana Brady of No. 22 Redlands 7-6, 6-2 on Friday and capped the week with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Anna Tanaka as the Beavers beat No. 29 Caltech 6-1 for their second consecutive win. 
 
Doubles Team of the WeekLily Cade & Kriti Sarav, Wellesley College
 
Lily Cade and Kriti Sarav went 3-0 for the Blue in Orlando, Fla. this past week. Versus No. 23 Denison, the duo only dropped a single game in a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Against No. 37 Hope, the pair scored a 6-2 point at the No. 3 line. Cade and Sarav closed out their perfect week by beating George Fox 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
