Marlborough, Mass.-  Coast Guard Academy's Sean Lyman (Pennsburg, Pa.) took home Swimmer of the Year honors, while sophomore Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) earned Diver of the Year accolades. MIT's Grant Hu (Allen, Texas) earned Rookie of the Year. The Coast Guard coaching staff was voted NEWMAC Coaching Staff of the Year by their peers. 

Lyman won three individual races, including the 1,650-yard freestyle in a NEWMAC meet record of 15:30.07. He also won the 400 medley and the 500 freestyle, and was a member of the Bears winning 800 Freestyle relay. 

Butler claimed a gold medal on the 3-meter board on Thursday at the NEWMAC Championships with a score of 520.75 and then finished as the runner-up on the 1-meter board for his fourth career medal on Saturday with a score of 492.50.

Hu collected two Second Team All-Conference honors in the 200 IM and the 800 Freestyle relay, to go with a third and fourth place finish. 

Led by head coach John Westkott, the Bears finished second in the NEWMAC Championship with 1079 points, behind seven first-place finishes. The Bears staff also includes Mary Westkott, Lt. Kristen Durham-Young, Lt. Carl Fuhs, Ltjg Daniel Jenkins, Todd Own, Krisztina Poda and Mick Westkott. 

Springfield won Diving Staff of the Year honors after Christian Butler placed in both diving events. This marks the 18th time Pete Avdoulos and his staff has won the award, and seventh-straight season that he has earned men's coach of the year recognition. The Springfield dive staff also includes Melanie Avdoulos. 
 
In addition, the top finisher in each event earns first team All-Conference honors, while the second-place finisher earns a spot on the second team.

About the NEWMAC

The NEWMAC is an association of 12 selective academic institutions: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Salve Regina University, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute, that are committed to providing high quality competitive athletic opportunities for student-athletes within an educational and respectful environment that embodies the NCAA Division III Philosophy.
