ATTLEBORO, Mass. — Senior Tim Neumann (Downers Grove, Ill.) won the 2025 NEWMAC Men’s Cross Country Championship to lead the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to its 27th straight conference crown this morning at the Mark Coogan Cross Country Course at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass. The eight-kilometer race was hosted by Wheaton College (Mass.).
MIT tallied 20 points and boasted five finishers among the top eight, including first, second, third, sixth and eighth. The Engineers also claimed ninth and 10th place among individual finishers. MIT has won all 27 NEWMAC Championship races since 1998.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute was the league’s runner-up with 60 points, while Babson College finished third with 83 points, and the United States Coast Guard placed fourth with a total of 90 points. Springfield College tallied 165 points, and Wheaton was right behind at 173 for fifth and sixth-place showings for the schools, respectively. Clark University racked up 204 points to finish seventh, and Salve Regina University was eighth at 248. Emerson College followed closely behind with 252 points to finish ninth.
Neumann turned in a winning time of 25:07.9 and was named the NEWMAC Athlete of the Year to become the 12th straight and 23rd overall runner to earn the honor for MIT.Â
Junior Yichen Sun (Chapel Hill, N.C.) was just four seconds behind at 25:11.8 to place second, while sophomore Renne Cooper (Austin, Texas) was nipping at his heels with a mark of 25:13.4 to finish third for the Engineers. Sophomore Landon Hering (Minnetonka, Minn.) registered a time of 25:35.3, good for sixth place, followed by first-year Sam Hansen’s (Bountiful, Utah) eighth-place showing after posting a time of 25:43.0 to round out the scoring for MIT. First year Dylan Fiegener (Corvallis, Ore.) clocked in at 25:47.4 to place ninth, while senior Jacob Cobb (West Deptford, N.J.) was 10th with a time of 25:53.8. Hansen’s effort led to him being named MIT’s 24th NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and extended the Engineers’ streak to 15 consecutive top conference rookie honorees.
Senior Everett Mosher (Chester, Vt.) placed fourth for WPI, finishing less than a second behind Cooper with a clip of 25:14.3, while senior Paul Hobbs (Vacaville, Calif.) of Coast Guard placed fifth with a time of 25:31.5. Sophomore Nick Yacoub (Sharon, Mass.) crossed the line in seventh at 25:37.6 for Babson.Â
The top 14 finishers all earned NEWMAC All-Conference designation.

Sophomore Brian Ronayne (Reading, Mass.) joined classmate Yacoub as the top runners for Babson with a time of 26:29.5 to finish 17th overall.
Senior Kai Hillier (Hinesburg, Vt.) led Wheaton with a time of 26:34.8 to finish 20th, while classmate Nick Lacroix (Bedford, N.H.) was 34th with a mark of 27:19.5
Clark sophomore Summit Smoker (Lititz, Pa.) turned in a team-best mark of 26:50.0 to place 25th, and first-year William Stone (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) was 62nd with a clip of 28:53.2.
Springfield’s top finisher was first-year Gabriel Schaeffer (Selinsgrove, Pa.) with a time of 27:25.4 to finish 38th, and junior Harry Yablon (Bellport, N.Y.) wasn’t far behind at 27:37.2 to place 41st.Â
Salve Regina’s top runner was first-year Cole Smith, who crossed the line at 28:18.0 to finish 51st, while sophomore Justin Ruffler posted a time of 29:17.0 to come in at 70th.Â
Senior John Lanza (Newport, R.I.) was the top finisher for Emerson with a mark of 28:28.3 for a 54th-place effort, and junior Andre Lazarus (Miami Beach, Fla.) recorded a clip of 29:33.5 to place 74th.Â
