NEWMAC Announces Athlete of the Week Honorees (week ending January 5)

Marlborough, Mass.- The NEWMAC has announced its Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending 1/5/25.  The full list of honorees can be found below.
 
Men's Basketball
 
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Felix Kloman (Gr., G), Babson College
 
Graduate student Felix Kloman (Ipswich, Mass.) averaged 19.0 points on 48 percent shooting to go along with 4.0 assists in three wins for Babson. He scored 22 points to go along with three assists in a 73-59 win over Case Western Reserve and followed it up with 16 points and two assists on the way to earning MVP honors as the Beavers handed No. 6 Wooster its first loss, 69-61, last Monday at the E.M. "Mose" Hole Classic. Kloman wrapped up the week by scoring 19 points and dishing out a career-high seven assists in a 99-89 2OT upset of No. 3 Trinity. 
 
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Nate Amado (Sr., G), Babson College
 
Senior Nate Amado (Hanson, Mass.) averaged 2.7 steals, one block and 7.0 rebounds as Babson defeated a pair of top-10 teams as part of its three victories over the holiday break. He contributed eight boards, four steals and one block in a 73-59 win over Case Western Reserve on December 29 and followed it up with three more steals, six rebounds and another block to earn all-tournament honors as the Beavers defeated sixth-ranked and previously unbeaten Wooster 69-61 on December 30 at the E.M. "Mose" Hole Classic. Amado, who also averaged 20.3 points, played a career-high 46 minutes and produced seven rebounds, one steal and one block in a 99-89 2OT upset of No. 3 Trinity on Saturday. 
 
Women's Basketball
 
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Ally Landau (Gr., G), Smith College
 
Graduate student Ally Landau (Livingston, N.J.) averaged 20.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 2.7 steals per game in a 3-0 week for the Smith College basketball team. She scored in double figures in all three games and shot 55.8% from the field and 46.2% from three-point range and was named MVP of the Smith Holiday Classic. Landau's impressive play helped the Smith basketball team crack the Top-10 of the WBCA Top 25 Coaches Poll. 
 
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Sofia Francisco (So., F), Mount Holyoke College
 
Sophomore Sofia Francisco (Boston, Mass.) averaged 4.5 blocked shots, 8.5 rebounds and 6.0 points per game in a 2-0 week for the Lyons, including a career-high seven blocks against Bard on Saturday. Her seven blocks ranks sixth in Division III for blocks in a game this season. Francisco ranks third in the NEWMAC in rebounding (10.3 rpg) and third in blocked shots (2.2 bpg).
