Marlborough, Mass.- The NEWMAC has announced its Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending 1/12/25. The full list of honorees can be found below.
Men's Basketball
Offensive Athlete of the Week- JoJo Powers (Sr., G), Salve Regina University
Senior
JoJo Powers (Dedham, Mass.) powered Salve Regina to a 2-0 week in NEWMAC action, winning at home against MIT and on the road at Springfield. Powers was the high scorer in both Seahawk victories with 25 and 24 points, respectively, and finished the week making 16-of-25 (.640) from the floor, 7-of-10 (.700) from long range and totaled 10 free throws made. Powers also dished out 10 assists and totaled seven steals on the week.
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Declan Rooney (Sr., G), Coast Guard Academy
Senior
Declan Rooney (Seattle, Wash.) totaled seven steals on the week for the Bears, two of which came in the final minute of a 77-75 victory over Clark to help seal the win. Rooney averaged 18.50 points per game and 3.0 rebounds per game.
Women's Basketball
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Ania McMichael (Fy., PG), Mount Holyoke College
First year
Ania McMichael (Glastonbury, Conn.) scored 12 points (shooting 4-6 from the field and 2-2 from the FT line) with 11 assists and four steals as Mount Holyoke defeated Colby-Sawyer 66-59 for its fourth straight victory on Thursday. The Lyons have won four in a row for the first time since 2012. In three games this season, McMichael averages a team-high 12.3 points, 7.3 assists and 4.0 steals per game.
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Ally Landau (Gr., G), Smith College
Graduate student
Ally Landau (Livingston, N.J.) totaled 10 steals and six defensive rebounds in two wins for the ninth-ranked Smith basketball team. In Smith's win over Hamilton, Landau finished with a season-high six steals. As a team, Smith forced 47 total turnovers while limiting its opponents to 31.5% shooting from the field and 12.5% from three-point range.
Women's Swimming & Diving
Diver of the Week- Fiora Beratahani (So.), MIT
Sophomore
Fiora Beratahani (San Jose, Calif.) won the 3-Meter board with an NCAA Regional Qualifying mark against Division I Boston University with a score of 314.33. She also grabbed a second-place finish with a score of 280.65 on the 1-Meter. She swept the boards against Coast Guard, winning the 1-Meter with a score of 286.65 and the 3-Meter with a mark of 302.03). Both scored are NCAA Qualifying marks.
Relay of the Week- 400 Medley Relay, MIT
The MIT 400 Medley Relay team of

Ella Roberson hit an NCAA B Cut with their winning time of 3:44.58 against Division I Boston University.
Swimmer of the Week- Sarah Bernard (Fy.), MIT
First year
Sarah Bernard (Brookline, Mass.) won five individual events, and two relay events, and broke a 13-year-old school record over the weekend. Bernard broke the school record and now ranks sixth in the country in the 500 Free with her winning time of 4:53.11 which she achieved against Division I Boston University. She also won the 50 breast (28.94) and was a member of the 400-yard Medley relay win over the Terriers. The next day against Coast Guard she won the 100 breast (1:06.42), 200 breast (2:22.28), and 200 IM (2:09.94) and was a member of the 200 medley relay victory.
Men's Swimming & Diving
Diver of the Week- Christian Butler (So.), Springfield College
Sophomore
Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) continued his stellar sophomore campaign by sweeping both boards against Hartwick and Union as the Pride defeated both schools in a double dual on Saturday. Butler registered an NCAA Diving Regional qualifying score of 303.80 on the 1-meter board and a mark of 267.10 on the 3-meter board.

Nathan Kim won the event in the meet against Boston University with an NCAA B Cut time of 3:01.12.
Swimmer of the Week- Aaron Martin (Fy.), MIT
First year
Aaron Martin (Phoenix, Ariz.) won two individual events against Boston University and was a member of two relay victories against the Terriers. He won the 100 Free in 45.83 and captured first in the 50 breast with a time of 25.69. He followed that with second place finishes in the 100 and 200 free (46.51, 1:44.47) against Coast Guard and helped both the 400 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay record victories.
