WESTWOOD, Mass – Following MIT’s 13th consecutive NEWMAC Women's Swimming & Diving title on February 25, MIT student-athletes
Kate Augustyn (Eau Claire, Wis.),
Ella Roberson (Midland, Mich.) and
Fiora Beratahani (San Jose, Calif.) earned major awards for their performance at the competition.
Augustyn was named NEWMAC Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year after setting a new meet and NEWMAC open record in the 200-Back, touching the wall in 1:56:98. Her time is the best time in Division III this season. She was also a member of the 400-Free relay team, which set a new pool and meet record with their winning time of 3:23.91- the third-fastest in Division III. The 400-Medley relay team she was a part of also set a new pool record of 3:41.58- the second fastest in Division III. She also took home victories in the 200 and 400 IM races.
Another member of the record-breaking 400-Free and 400-Medley Relay teams, Ella Roberson was tabbed NEWMAC Rookie of the Year. Roberson won the 100-Free with a time of 49:95, the second-fastest time in Division III. She set a meet record in the 200-Free with a mark of 1:51.3 and took home the win in the 50-Free with a time of 23:15.
Fiora Beratahani swept the 1-meter and 3-meter boards to earn Diver of the Year honors. She won the 3-meter with a score of 549.00, and the 1-meter with a score of 509.30.
The Engineers' coaching staff swept Coaching Staff and Diving Staff of the Year honors after posting the highest point total in program history as the Engineers put up 1,565.5 points over the four-day meet. The Engineers won 16 events, including every relay, and swept the top-3 spots on both diving boards.
Meg Sisson French heads up the MIT swim staff and is joined by assistant
Aaron Green.
Kelsey O’Neill is the head diving coach, while
Elizabeth Cron is the assistant diving coach.
Nicole O’Keeffe,
Kristen Barry,
Emilio Sison and
John Jeang round out the staff for MIT.
In addition, the top finisher in each event earns first team All-Conference honors, while the second-place finisher earns a spot on the second team.
