WELLESLEY, Mass. – November 2, 2024 – SeniorÂ
Sam Coutts (Pacific Grove, Calif.) of MIT won the individual title at the 2024 NEWMAC Men’s Cross Country Championship today held at Nehoiden Golf Club.Â
MIT recorded a winning score of 25 points with nine finishers in the top 12 in the race. The Engineers have claimed all 26 conference titles in the 27-year history of the NEWMAC. The eight-kilometer championship race was hosted by Wellesley College on an ideal race day with overcast skies and temps in the 50s.Â
WPI finished second with a score of 62 points, while Babson College placed third with 73 points. United States Coast Guard Academy trailed in fourth with 106 points and Springfield College scored 129 points to finish fifth. Wheaton College recorded 174 points to finish sixth, followed by Clark University in seventh place with 222 points. Emerson College placed eighth with 246 points while Salve Regina University rounded out the field in ninth with 260 points.Â
Coutts earned NEWMAC Athlete of the Year honors after clocking in with a time of 24:32.4. This marks the 22
nd occasion that an MIT runner has earned the accolade.
Graduate
Anthony Rodriguez (Prairie View, Ill.) of Babson placed second in a time of 24:42.8. MIT senior
Samir Amin (Olympia, Wash.) finished third, registering a time of 24:44. In fourth place was WPI graduate
Avi Bissoondial (Millbury, Mass.) in 24:44.2. Rounding out the top five was Babson senior
Julian Ivarra (Plano, Texas) who crossed the finish line in 25:06.8.
MIT first-year
Renne Cooper (Austin, Texas) received NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honors after placing seventh with a time of 25:09.3 to become the 23
rd Engineer to earn the top newcomer designation.
The top 14 finishers earned NEWMAC All-Conference accolades.
