Westwood, Mass.- The NEWMAC has announced its Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending 10/27/24. The full list of honorees can be found below.
Field Hockey
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Nicolette Morlock (Jr., M/D), Springfield College
Junior
Nicolette Morlock (Rexford, N.Y.) guided the Pride to a 2-0 week with wins over Wheaton and Smith as she tallied two of the three goals scored by the team this week. Against Wheaton, Morlock converted on a penalty stroke with 2:34 remaining in regulation to lift Springfield to the 1-0 win before scoring the Pride's second goal of the game against Smith on Saturday to secure the 2-0 win over the Pioneers on yet another stroke. Morlock is now 4-for-4 on penalty strokes this fall, the most in the NEWMAC, and her efforts kept Springfield in the hunt for a postseason berth.
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Rachel Reiter (So., GK), Clark University
Sophomore
Rachel Reiter (Millburn, N.J.) helped guide the Cougars to a 2-0 record this week with a pair of critical NEWMAC wins. The sophomore recorded 20 saves across the two contests and only allowed one goal. In a 3-1 win over regionally ranked Salve Regina, Reiter registered seven saves, including three in the second half. Reiter recorded 13 saves and helped fight off 17 penalty corners in Clark's 1-0 victory against Wellesley on Saturday.
Football
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Mike Ingraffia, (Gr., QB), WPI
Graduate student
Mike Ingraffia (Kings Park, N.Y.) registered his second-straight five-touchdown performance as WPI upset Merchant Marine 35-24 on Saturday afternoon. The graduate student completed 18-of-24 passes for a career-high 336 yards with touchdown passes to five different receivers. Ingraffia also added 29 rushing yards as the Engineers defeated the 5-1 Mariners for the first time since 2019.
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Joe Maurer (Gr., DB), Springfield College
Graduate student
Joe Maurer (Wilbraham, Mass.) tied a program record for interceptions in a game with three and added a pair of tackles as he powered the nationally ranked Pride to a 31-7 win at Salve Regina. Thanks to his efforts, No. 23 Springfield shut out Salve in the first half and held them off the scoreboard for the final 23-plus minutes of the game as they improved to 7-0 on the year. His three interceptions tied the most for a single game across all of college football this year.
Special Teams Athlete of the Week- Ian Wernik (Fy., K), Springfield College
First year
Ian Wernik (Plymouth, Mass.) connected on his conference-leading fifth field goal of the year and was 4-for-4 on extra point attempts in helping the nationally-ranked Springfield College football team earn a hard-fought 31-7 victory at Salve Regina on Saturday.
Men’s Soccer
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Tyler Manley (Sr., A), Clark University
Senior
Tyler Manley (New Rochelle, N.Y.) led the team with three goals across two matches this week. The senior opened his week by giving Clark a 1-0 lead over WPI with a bicycle kick goal in the first half. In a 4-1 victory over Anna Maria, the senior added two second half goals to help propel the team to a win.
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Liam Goldstein (Jr., B), Babson College
Junior
Liam Goldstein (Princeton, N.J.) played the full 90 minutes at center back in consecutive one-goal wins for No. 11 Babson. He helped the Beavers allow just one shot on goal in Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over Springfield and cleared a scoring chance off the goal line in the 28th minute on Saturday at MIT in a game the Beavers would go on to win 2-1.
Women’s Soccer
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Mia Salmon (Fy., F), Springfield College
First year
Mia Salmon (Arlington, Va.) led the Pride to a 2-0 week as she registered the game winning goals in both NEWMAC contests. On Wednesday against WPI, Salmon potted the game winner late in the first half and then on Saturday against Wellesley, gave Springfield a 2-0 advantage late in the second half to secure six points this week. Salmon continues her stellar rookie campaign as she ranks second in the conference in both goals (7) and points (17) this fall.
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Evie Krieg (So., GK), Mount Holyoke College
Sophomore
Evie Krieg (Frisco, Texas) posted back-to-back shutouts to lead the Lyons in a 1-0-1 week against NEWMAC opponents. Krieg’s eight saves at Coast Guard helped Mount Holyoke negate significant disadvantages in shots (28-3) and corner kicks (11-0). Their 0-0 tie ended the Bears' 10-game winning streak against the Lyons. Krieg made four saves in Mount Holyoke's 1-0 win at Clark on Wednesday night, ending a five-game losing streak to the Cougars with their first win against them since 2016. Krieg has made 67 saves against six goals allowed this season, for a conference-best .918 save percentage. Her 7.44 saves per game also leads the conference.
Women’s Swimming & Diving
Diver of the Week- Morgen Coughlin-Doyle (Sr.), Wheaton College
Senior
Morgen Coughlin-Doyle (Topsham, Maine) won three of four events in two meets for Wheaton and has qualified provisionally for the NCAA Regional Championship on the three-meter board. She placed first on the three-meter board at Bentley University with a score of 281.70 to finish less than eight points shy of the school record. The Maine native was the runner-up on the one-meter board with a mark of 241.13. Coughlin-Doyle came back the next week to shatter the school standard on the three-meter board with a first-place score of 309.20 against Wellesley College. She also placed first on the one-meter board with a tally of 271.87.
Relay of the Week- Wheaton 200-yard Freestyle

Reese Hartmann (Grand Rapids, Mich.) turned in a winning time of 1:40.55 to win the event by more than five seconds and give Wheaton the come-from-behind victory in Waltham.
Swimmer of the Week- Julia Netishen (Fy.), Babson College
First year
Julia Netishen (Exeter, N.H.) has been terrific in her first two collegiate meets setting a new school record and posting four first place finishes in four events while helping Babson to three first-place results in the relays. She touched the wall first in the 50 free (24.48) and 100 backstroke (1:00.64) was part of a victory in the 400 free relay against Regis on October 12. Netishen followed it up by setting a new school record on the way to placing first with a time of 24.15 in the 50 free, winning the 100 free in a time of 55.03 and helping the Green and White win both the 200 medley and 200 free relays in a close loss to Bentley on Saturday.
Men’s Swimming & Diving
Diver of the Week- David Krol (So.), Babson College
Sophomore
David Krol (Grafton, Wis.) has finished first in both diving events in a pair of meets to begin the season for 2-0 Babson. He posted scores of 299.05 on the 1-meter board and 247.70 on the 3-meter board in the Beavers’ October 12 victory over Regis and recorded his top marks of the season on both the 1-meter board (301.85) and the high board (281.85) as the Green and White defeated Bentley for the first time since 2013 on Saturday.
Relay of the Week- Wheaton 200-yard Freestyle
Wheaton closed its meet at Bentley University on October 18 with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Junior
Brian Hixson (Scituate, Mass.) led off the race, before yielding to senior
Sean Hill (Ellsworth, Maine). Junior
Gavin Cullinan (Cumming, Ga.) followed to set up senior
Anton Lopez (Oakland, Calif.) with the final 50 yards to come from behind and give the Lyons a win by just 1.4 tenths of a second with a combined mark of 1:26.18.
Swimmer of the Week- Pat Anutarasoti (Sr.), Babson College
Senior
Pat Anutarasoti (Bangkok, Thailand) is off to a strong start with three first-place finishes in three events as well as two more victories in the relays for 2-0 Babson. He opened the season by placing first in the 50 free with a time of 21.41 and helped the Beavers win the 200-medley relay in a season-opening triumph over Regis on October 12. Anutarasoti followed it up by winning both the 50 free (21.34) and 100 butterfly (50.78) to go along with a first-place finish in the 200 free relay as the Green and White defeated Bentley for the first time since 2013 on Saturday.
Women’s Volleyball
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Victoria Pastor (Gr., OH), Clark University
Graduate student
Victoria Pastor (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) led the squad with 38 kills and 24 digs across two games, including a 3-2 victory to hand Babson their first NEWMAC loss of the season. In the 3-2 win against Babson, Pastor recorded a career-high 26 kills, including six in the deciding fifth set and added 14 digs. In a non-conference match against Trinity, Pastor led the team with 12 kills and 10 digs. She averaged 4.22 kills per set on the week, to go along with 2.67 digs per set.
Defensive Athlete of the Week-
Kaija Kunze-Hoeg (Jr., L), Wellesley College
Junior
Kaija Kunze-Hoeg (Eagan, Mich.) recorded 65 digs over 11 sets (5.91 per set) in three matches this past week. The junior notched 29 digs against Bowdoin on Friday and added 19 assists and a pair of aces over the week.
