NEWMAC Announces Athlete of the Week Honorees (week ending December 31)

Westwood, Mass.- The NEWMAC has announced its Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending 12/31/23.  The full list of honorees can be found below.

Men’s Basketball
 
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Isaiah Taylor, (Jr., G), Clark University 
 
Junior Isaiah Taylor (Methuen, Mass.) averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 3.0 steals as Clark competed against a pair of ranked opponents in the d3hoops.com Classic. He earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team and also reached the 1,000 career point club. The junior opened the week with a 26 point effort on 10-15 shooting, while adding five assists and five rebounds in a loss to No. 22 Trinity (Tex.). Against No. 8 Case Western Reserve, Taylor registered 11 points, five steals, four assists, and four rebounds as he joined the 1,000 point club. 

Defensive Athlete of the Week- Isaiah Taylor (Jr., G), Clark University 
 
Junior Isaiah Taylor (Methuen, Mass.) averaged 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.5 steals per game as Clark competed against a pair of ranked opponents in the d3hoops.com Classic. He also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team, averaging 18.5 points per game and joining the 1,000 career point club. The junior opened the week with a 26 point effort on 10-15 shooting, while adding five assists and five rebounds in a loss to No. 22 Trinity (Tex.). Against No. 8 Case Western Reserve, Taylor registered 11 points, five steals, four assists, and four rebounds. 
 
Women’s Basketball
 
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Angie Choi (Jr., G), MIT
 
Junior Angie Choi (Cypress, Calif.) averaged 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while shooting 54.2 percent from the floor, 66.7 percent from three-point range, and 58.3 percent at the charity stripe. She generated game and career highs in points (26) and rebounds (12) while also recording five assists and two steals in an 80-74 victory at Westfield State on December 11. One of four players to produce a game-high 15 points, Choi added five rebounds and two assists in the Engineers’ 63-53 win over Southern Maine on December 30.
 
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Kamsi Nwogu (Jr., F), MIT
 
Junior Kamsi Nwogu averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 1.5 steals. She tallied nine points, nine rebounds (six defensive), two steals, and one assist in an 80-74 victory at Westfield State on December 11. Nwogu then tallied 15 points, a game-high 11 rebounds (nine defensive), one block, one steal, and two assists in the Engineers’ 63-53 win over Southern Maine on December 30.
