NEWMAC Announces Baseball 25-Year Anniversary Team

WESTWOOD, Mass. - The NEWMAC is excited to announce the Baseball 25-Year All-NEWMAC Team, in recognition of the historic 25th Anniversary season. A total of 26 student-athletes have been recognized from the last 25 years, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning. The honored team was voted on by the membership.

A total of five institutions were represented on the team, with Wheaton leading the way with 13 honorees. Next was Babson with six, followed by MIT with four and WPI with three. Clark rounded out the team with one selection.

The team features 12 Athlete of the Year honorees, as well as six Pitcher of the Year selections. Combined, the group earned a total of 64 first team All-NEWMAC nods. There are 15 All-Region performers and 10 All-American performers within the group.

Wheaton's Eric Podbelski was voted as the top coach from the past 25 years. In 26 seasons with the Lyons, Podbelski has led his squad to a 771-309-5 record, equating to a .713 winning percentage, which ranks as the eighth-highest success mark in Division III among active coaches. His victory total puts him 19th on the active list. Under Podbelski, the Lyons have made four trips to the College World Series, earned 18 NCAA Tournament berths and appeared in every NEWMAC post-season tournament. The Lyons have never finished lower than second in any season in the NEWMAC standings. In addition to his conference-record 11 NEWMAC Coach of the Year awards, he has been named the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Coach of the Year six times, in addition to being chosen the New England Region Coach of the Year on four occasions.
