WESTWOOD, Mass. – The NEWMAC is thrilled to welcome Lindsay Colbert as the conference's next Assistant Director for Strategic Communications, as announced by Executive Director Patrick B. Summers on Friday, May 26, 2023. Colbert will begin her duties with the conference office on July 1, 2023.

Colbert comes to the NEWMAC after spending the last seven years with the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC), where she most recently served as the Interim Commissioner for the 2022-2023 academic year. Prior to that, Colbert worked as the Assistant Commissioner from 2017-2022 where she was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the conference's strategic communications, development of conference schedules, conference governance and the NECC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

“After an extensive and thorough search process from an incredibly deep and talented pool of applications, Lindsay's experience in the conference office and unique skill set demonstrated the qualifications needed to make an immediate impact as the next assistant director for strategic communications,” expresses NEWMAC Executive Director Patrick B. Summers. “I am excited for her to start on July 1 and eager to see where her leadership and ideas take us as we look to extend the conference brand and promote our student-athletes and athletic programs.”

Colbert is no stranger to the NEWMAC, having served as the Assistant Director of Athletics at Emerson College from 2013-2017, where she was responsible for athletics event management, schedules, SAAC and facility management while assisting in branding and marketing for the athletic department. Additionally, Colbert assisted the NEWMAC conference office behind the scenes in preparation for the 25-Year Anniversary from the spring of 2022 through winter of 2023 to help honor top moments and student-athletes successes in the NEWMAC since 1998.

“I am thrilled to welcome Lindsay to our NEWMAC family,” said NEWMAC Assistant Director, Taylor Teixeira. “Lindsay’s experience in Division III athletic administration and conference office operations combined with her eagerness to promote our student-athletes, coaches and institutions will be a great asset to our membership. I am looking forward to working closely with Lindsay and seeing her continue to elevate the NEWMAC brand and promoting our membership.”

Colbert was first introduced to conference office operations as the Leagues and Affiliates Assistant with the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), working closely within the public relations department on external communications and marketing for ECAC affiliate leagues.

Aligning with her roots to Boylston Street, Colbert graduated from Emerson College in 2008 where she was a four-year student-athlete on both the women’s basketball and softball teams. As a student-athlete, she earned a Bachelor of Science in broadcast journalism with a minor in marketing/public relations before earning a master’s degree in sport leadership from Northeastern University in 2010.

In addition to her administrative work, Colbert also coached softball at the Division III level, as both a head coach and an assistant coach. Most recently, she was an assistant at Emerson. Prior to Emerson, she was the head coach at Lasell College and Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

“I would like to thank Patrick, Taylor and the entire search committee for giving me the opportunity to work with the amazing administrators, coaches and student-athletes within the NEWMAC,” said Colbert. “I am looking forward to highlighting the many successes  within the conference and continuing to bring visibility to the NEWMAC and its membership.”

As the Assistant Director for Strategic Communications, Colbert will be responsible for the conference's internal and external communications while leading the conference marketing and promotions efforts on social media and the NEWMAC website platforms. Colbert will also have duties in championship administration, conference programming and NEWMAC SAAC along with other day-to-day operations of the conference.
