MIT Selected As Preseason Favorite In Women's Cross Country Coaches' Poll

WESTWOOD, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) is looking forward to what is in store in 2018 for the 11 women's cross country teams across the league. After a tremendous fourth-place finish at the 2017 NCAA Division III National Championship and earning their 11th straight NEWMAC crown last season, MIT was selected as the preseason favorite and tops the poll with 10 first place votes.

WPI is slated at No. 2 with one first place vote, after a second-place finish in the 2017 NEWMAC Championship, while Coast Guard is ranked at No. 3. Wellesley gets the nod at No. 4, followed by No. 5 Smith, No. 6 Springfield, and No. 7 Wheaton. Rounding out the remaining slots is No. 8 Babson, No. 9 Clark, No. 10 Mount Holyoke, and No. 11 Emerson.

The 2018 campaign should be an exciting one as the NEWMAC welcomes back 14 All-Conference honorees, seven All-Region selections, and two All-Americans (Leandra Zimmerman, MIT; Kaitlyn Mooney, Coast Guard). After a standout 2017 season, Mooney returns as the dual 2017 NEWMAC Athlete and Rookie of the Year, as well as the reigning USTFCCCA New England Region Athlete of the Year after a fourth-place individual finish at the 2017 NCAA Division III National Championship.
