Reigning Champions MIT Named Preseason Favorites

BOSTON, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released the annual Women's Track and Field Preseason Coaches' Poll on Wednesday morning. After claiming the programs eighth consecutive NEWMAC title last season the MIT Engineers have been tabbed as the preseason favorites heading into the 2017 outdoor season with eight first place votes. 

After finishing in second place at the 2016 Championships, WPI enters the season at No. 2 with one first place vote while No. 3 Wheaton, No. 4 Wellesley and No. 5 Coast Guard follows. Rounding out the final five spots is No. 6 Springfield, No. 7 Smith, No. 8 Babson and No. 9 Mount Holyoke. 

The 2017 NEWMAC track and field season will welcome back an impressive 34 All-Conference honorees, 15 All-Region winners and three All-Americans. The season will also welcome back NEWMAC and New England Field Athlete of the Year, MIT's Jackie Vahey as well as the reigning Rookie of the Year, Wheaton's Cathryn MacGregor.
