WESTWOOD, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released the 2019 Women's Lacrosse All-Conference team and major awards on Thursday.
Babson's Lexi Lenaghan was selected as the 2019 Offensive Player of the Year, after leading the conference with 86 goals and 118 points. Lenaghan tallied four or more points in 12 games this season.
Springfield's Andie Stone and Babson's Mairead Williams shared the 2019 Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors. Stone was able to produce 37 recorded caused turnovers, along with 47 ground balls and six draw controls. Williams tallied 14 caused turnovers, 24 ground balls and two draw controls and was a critical part of the Beavers' transition defense.
MIT's Eva Then was named the 2019 Rookie of the Year, after a dominant first-year campaign. Then finished sixth in goals (56) and top-10 in points (60) in the conference, while scoring in every game but one this season.
Babson's Head Coach Michelle Smith was voted the 2019 Coach of the Year. Smith led the Beavers to an undefeated record in league play to earn the regular season title and the top-seed in the NEWMAC Tournament.
The women's lacrosse all-conference team consists of 13 first team and 14 second team selections which are voted on by the nine head coaches.
Also being recognized are the nine women's lacrosse student-athletes that were named to the All-Sportsmanship Team. The award is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team, in every sport that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of his/her overall performance or statistics for the season.
