  • MIT's Kara Holinski Earns CoSIDA Academic All-America Honors

    AUSTIN, Texas (February 28) – Sophomore Kara Holinski (Livonia, Mich.) was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America third team, marking the third straight season the MIT women's basketball team was represented on the list. She is the lone sophomore to receive this honor this season in addition to being the only student-athlete from New England. Holinski's award is the 10th for the women's basketball program and it raised the Engineers' total to 256 honors, helping them continue to be the all-time Division III leader in producing Academic All-Americas while also ranking second across all NCAA divisions.

    An 8-of-10 performance at the charity stripe during the final minute of regulation helped #5 seed Smith College hold on for a 77-70 victory over #4 MIT in the quarterfinals of the NEWMAC Women's Basketball Tournament on Wednesday. Sophomore Taylor V'Dovec (Blaine, Wash.) paced the Engineers with a game-high 26 points to go along with eight rebounds. One of five players to reach double-digits for the Pioneers, Kennedy Guest-Pritchett led the way with 19 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

  • Smith's Guest-Pritchett and Coast Guard's Gerton Tabbed NEWMAC Weekly Honors

    Kennedy Guest-Pritchett averaged a double-double for the second consecutive week with 20.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Gerton averaged 15.5 points and 10 rebounds per game (18 of her 20 rebounds were defensive boards) as the Bears went 2-0 during the week to close the season winning eight of nine to earn a spot in the NEWMAC Tournament.

    BOSTON, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced seeds and pairings for the 2017 Women's Basketball Championship on Saturday, following the conclusion of the regular season. Babson secured the regular season title and will serve as the top overall seed and hosting rights for the conference championship, which begins on Wednesday.

    Chelsea McAllister, a sophomore guard for Springfield College, led the Pride to a pair of NEWMAC victories this past week, as she averaged 17.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game. In a 2-0 week for MIT, Taylor V'Dovec averaged 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and shot 82.4 percent from the floor. Williams-Flores had an outstanding defensive effort for the Lyons last week, recording a team-best 29 rebounds, including 11 off the offensive glass.

    Boyle continues to impress as she put in 12 points against Wheaton and 29 points against Mount Holyoke for a combined 41 points and pushing the Lions to 2-0 on the week. Gerton led the Bears to a pair of NEWMAC wins against teams above them in the standings including a 54-50 win over WPI to snap the Engineers seven-game win streak and hand them just their second NEWMAC loss of the season.

    Pickering had a magnificent week averaging 28.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 44.9 percent for Babson. Gill had a huge week as Coast Guard won back-to-back NEWMAC games for the first time this season. Narlee averaged 14.5 rebounds, including 11.5 on the defensive end, to go along with 3.5 blocked shots and 3.0 steals in a pair of games for Babson.

    In a 2-0 week for MIT, Dolly Yuan averaged 18 points, four assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals while shooting 72.2 percent from the floor and 80 percent from three-point range. Biney once again paced the Engineers in a 2-0 week, this time by narrowly averaging a double-double of 11.5 points and eight rebounds.

    Pickering averaged 22.3 points, 5.3 assists, 4.0 steals and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 57.5 percent from the field in a 3-0 week for Babson. Narlee averaged 11.3 rebounds and 5.3 steals as Babson remained undefeated in league play with three double-digit victories.

    Ava Adamopoulos, a senior center for Springfield College, was dominant in a pair of NEWMAC wins for the Pride this past week, as she averaged 19.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per contest on the week. In a tough two game setback for the Lyons last week Black was essential on the defensive end as she averaged 8.5 boards per game totaling 17 in two games.

    Pickering averaged 15.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.8 steals to help Babson win three of four games over the holiday break. Biney was a force to be reckoned with this past weekend in the WPI Holiday Tournament. She received MVP honors for averaging 17.5 points, nine rebounds, 4.5 blocks and 4.5 steals. Narlee continued to make an impact on the defensive end as she averaged 9.5 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 1.0 blocks as Babson went 3-1 over the holiday break.
