WESTWOOD, Mass - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the 2019 Men's Track and Field major awards as well as the six All-Sportsmanship Team honorees on Thursday afternoon.

Springfield's Tyler Hansen was named the Track Athlete of the Year, after outstanding performances at the 2019 NEWMAC Championship last Saturday. Hansen finished first in the 100-meter (10.79) and 200-meter dash (22.05). Hansen was also a part of the Pride's winning 4x100-meter relay (41.86).

MIT's Shaoul was selected the Field Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year. The sophomore won both of his events with a mark of 24-01.75 in the long jump and 47-07.00 in the triple jump.

MIT's Basinger earned the title of Rookie of the Year, after topping the competition in the shot put (46-01.50). The first year also finished in the top-10 in the discus (127-00) and the hammer (143-06).

Rounding out the major awards was MIT's Halston Taylor, as he earned Coach of the Year honors. Taylor led the No. 3 ranked MIT program to its 19th-straight NEWMAC title with 275 points.

Six men's track and field student-athletes are also being recognized to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
