Cambridge, Mass. -- MIT senior running back John Robertson (Brentwood, Tenn.) is this week's New England Football Writers Association Division II/III Gold Helmet Award recipient, as presented by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation.
In MIT's 30-12 home win over Maine Maritime, Robertson rushed for a career-high 263 yards and one touchdown on a season-high 34 carries. His total is the third-highest single-game rushing performance in MIT history and included eight rushes of 10 or more yards.
Robertson's touchdown came on a 69-yard drive where he carried the ball on every play to erase an early 6-0 deficit and give his team a lead it would not relinquish.
For the fifth straight year, the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation is the presenting sponsor for both the weekly and end-of-year Gold Helmet Awards presented to student-athletes from FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III institutions throughout New England.
MIT is now 3-2 overall and 2-1 in NEWMAC play. The Engineers are on a bye next week, followed by a road game at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy beginning at 1:30 p.m. on October 26th.
