Springfield Tops NEWMAC Football Preseason Coaches' Poll

WESTWOOD, Mass. - Following a historic and competitive inaugural 2017 season, the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) is looking forward to another incredible season from the league's eight teams. After posting an impressive 10-0 perfect record during the 2017 regular season and earning the first ever NEWMAC title with an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, Springfield tops the preseason coaches' poll with seven first place votes.

After winning its first-ever postseason game in a New England Bowl game in 2017, WPI is ranked No. 2 with one first place vote, followed by a tie for third between MIT and Merchant Marine. Catholic claimed the No. 5 spot with Coast Guard at No. 6, Norwich at No. 7 and Maine Maritime at No. 8.

The NEWMAC welcomes back 25 All-Conference winners, four All-Region selections (Nick Bainter, Nick Giorgio, Springfield; Spencer Herrington, Sean McAllen; WPI), and one Second Team All-American and National Finalist for the Cliff Harris Award (Giorgio). The NEWMAC also returns two major award winners in Giorgio (Defensive Athlete of the Year) and Herrington (Special Teams Athlete of the Year).

The eight teams will begin conference play on Saturday, September 22nd.
