Lexington, Ky. - September 15, 2026 - Emerson College women’s volleyball junior setter Chloe Hokenson (McLean, Va.) has been named as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Women’s Volleyball National Player of the Week.
Hokenson is the first in Emerson women’s volleyball history to earn the national honor and the first student-athlete from the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) to be named National Player of the Week since 2005 when MaryKathryn O’Neil of Springfield College took home the award. In fact, Hokenson and O’Neil are the only two NEWMAC student-athletes to ever be named Division III Women’s Volleyball National Player of the Week from the AVCA since the award’s inception in 1993.
Yesterday, Hokenson was tabbed as the NEWMAC Women’s Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week after a tremendous effort on the court for the Lions. Hokenson recorded back-to-back triple doubles and added two additional double-doubles in leading the Lions to a 3-1 week capped by a five set triumph over No. 25 NYU on Saturday.
Hokenson opened the week by filling out the box score with 11 kills and 12 assists for her second-straight double-double, adding five service aces, seven digs and four blocks in Tuesday night's 3-1 win at Endicott. She posted a .457 hitting percentage with her season-high 18 kills on 35 total attacks and just two errors in Friday night's 3-2 win over St. Thomas (Texas), with 31 assists and career-best 26 digs, two service aces and four blocks for her first triple-double of the weekend and followed it up with her second-straight triple-double (sixth career), against Montclair State on Saturday with 14 kills and a .393 hitting percentage with just three errors on 28 total attempts with 29 assists, 15 digs and two blocks. Hokenson capped the week with her third double-double of the season in Saturday's five set triumph at #25 NYU by recording 11 kills with just two errors on 29 total attacks for a .310 hitting percentage to her 26 assists, six digs and two solo blocks in the contest.
Emerson’s win over NYU marked the Lions first over a nationally-ranked program since 2019 when the Lions defeated conference rival Babson College.
Emerson is off to a 6-1 start this fall under the direction of head coach Ben Read. The Lions are set for a trio of non-conference matches this week against Dean College, Muhlenberg College and Rhode Island College before opening NEWMAC play on Tuesday, September 22 against Mount Holyoke College.
