USA Lacrosse Magazine and the IWLCA Announces Women's Lacrosse All-American Selection

MIT's Ashley Thomas (Summit, N.J.) and Pauline Vien (Brookline, Mass.) were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-America Third Team on Friday. Both were also honored as USA Lacrosse Magazine All-Americans, along with teammate Annica Lam (Livingston, N.J.), U.S. Coast Guard Academy’s Abby McAllister (Pleasantville, N.Y.), Ella Campbell (Foxborough, Mass.), and Lauren Henry (Monroe, Conn.), as well as Babson College’s Courtney Laden (Wilmette, Ill.) and Springfield College’s Sarah Newton (Colchester, Conn.)  

Thomas was a third-team IWLCA pick and a first-team USA Lacrosse pick. She currently ranks third in the nation in assists (71) and fourth in assists per game (3.55), points (136), and points per game (6.80). Thomas now holds MIT program records for assists in a season (71), career assists (212), points in a game (12), points in a season (136), and career points (444). In addition, Thomas was the fourth player in the history of NCAA Division III women's lacrosse to produce 200 goals and 200 assists.

Vien currently ranks 10th in the country in save percentage (.512) and placed second in the NEWMAC in saves (148) and sixth in goals against average (9.68). In the MIT record book, she is first in career goals against average (9.01), second in career save percentage (.529), and fourth in career saves (317). Vien was selected to the USA Lacrosse Honorable Mention team.

Lam was a third-team USA Lacrosse Magazine selection. A NEWMAC first-team selection, Lam totaled 72 goals, which was second in the NEWMAC, as was her 3.60 goals per game. She was also sixth in the league with 4.20 points per game.

Joining Lam on the third team was the NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Year, Abby McAllister. McAllister paced the league in points per game with 7.41 and goals per game with 4.29, the former of which leads the nation.

Campbell and Henry anchored a Coast Guard defense that led the NEWMAC with 12.47 caused turnovers per game. They were also contributors to the Coast Guard's seven goals allowed per game, which is the 19th-lowest mark in the nation, helping them each to an Honorable Mention selection.

Also an honorable mention pick, Laden finished third for the Beavers in scoring with 34 goals and 35 points while leading the squad with 62 draw controls and 24 caused turnovers in 18 starts. She tied for second with 26 ground balls and collected two or more nine times during the season. 

Wrapping up the USA Lacrosse Magazine honorable mention picks was Sarah Newton, who ranked 26th in the country and led the conference in draw controls per game with 6.33, as she also led the conference in total draw controls. She won 114 draw controls, which marks a new single-season program record.
