No. 9 MIT Women's Tennis Falls to No. 11 Bowdoin, 4-0, in NCAA Third Round

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 9 MIT fell to No. 11 Bowdoin College, 4-0, in the third round of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship on Sunday at the DuPont Tennis Courts.
 
Cara Hung and Suzanne Pogorelec defeated Carley Chen and Chloe Zeng, 6-1, in the No. 2 position.

At the No. 3 slot, Katie Driscoll and Anastasia Samets won four games in a row to take a 4-1 lead before going on to defeat Naomi Williams and Caroline Stuhlfaut, 6-2.

In the top spot, Alaina Kolli and Artemis Pados raced out to a 4-0 advantage against Zoe Sun and Isabella Hartung. Sun and Hartung took the next two games; however, Kolli and Pados claimed the following game for a 5-2 lead. Sun and Hartung chipped away at the deficit and went on to capture the doubles point with a 7-5 victory.

Sun topped Sophia Yang, 6-0, in the first set at No. 4 singles. In the second set, Yang inched out to a 3-1 lead, which shifted to 4-2 after both players broke each other. Sun then broke Yang and followed with three consecutive wins to take the set at 6-4.

In the No. 3 position, Hartung established a 4-1 advantage against Driscoll in the opening set. Driscoll picked up two of the next three games, but Hartung held on for the 6-3 decision. In the second set, Driscoll generated three consecutive victories to take a 4-2 lead. Hartung responded by rallying for the 6-4 come-from-behind win.

At the No. 5 slot, Chen won the first three games versus Stuhlfaut and later held a 4-2 edge. However, Stuhlfaut rattled off four straight victories to complete the comeback. In the second set, Stuhlfaut jumped out to a 4-1 advantage en route to a 6-2 win, which clinched the match for Bowdoin.

In the abandoned matches, Hung led Saina Deshpande, 6-3, 5-3, in the No. 1 position; Zeng took the first set against Pogorelec, 6-3, but Pogorelec had a 6-5 edge in the second set in the No. 2 spot; and in the No. 6 slot, Julia Ross led Rayna Li, 6-4, 3-2.
