MIDDLEBURY, Vt.—Senior
Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) set new single-season program records for doubles and combined wins as No. 5 Babson College rolled to a 4-0 victory over 39th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday morning at the Middlebury Outdoor Tennis Courts.

Babson has now won 13 of its last 14 matches and improved to 17-4 on the year while matching the 2022-23 squad for the most wins in single-season program history. Stevens closes the season at 17-3 overall.

The pairing of sophomore
Alessandra Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) and first-year
Manuela Moscoso (Quito, Ecaudor) were 6-1 winners over senior Stephanie Untermeyer (Dallas, Texas) and sophomore Gigi Arenas (Kearny, N.J.) of Stevens at number two doubles, while the nation’s third-ranked pairing Matia Cristani and first-year
Sandra Sikharulidze (Kyiv, Ukraine) beat the Ducks’ duo of junior Lorena Piegas (Sao Paolo, Brazil) and sophomore Wei-Wei Lai (Hsinchu City, Taiwan). The win was the 33rd of the year in doubles and 63rd overall this season for Cristiani.

Beavers’ first-year
Jolie Wang (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) registered the first singles point with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over first-year Kaylee Hobbick (Austin, Texas) at number five, and Alessandra Cristiani followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win at number three over Untermeyer. Sikharulidze clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Piegas at number two.

Babson will face No. 12 Middlebury in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Saturday’s match was the first for the Beavers in program history against Stevens.
Babson is now 2-3 all-time in the second rounds and 5-4 overall in its five NCAA Tournament appearances.
Cristiani broke her own record of 62 combined wins during the 2023-24 campaign and passed doubles partner Olivia Soffer’s ’25 single-season record of 32 doubles victories achieved during the 2022-23 campaign on Saturday.Â
The Beavers have won 25 of their last 26 matches when claiming the doubles point, going back to last season.
