NEWMAC Announces Athlete of the Week Honorees (week ending January 11)

Marlborough, Mass.- The NEWMAC has announced its Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending 1/11/26, presented by SKYBOKX 109 Bar & Grill in Natick, Massachusetts. The full list of honorees can be found below.
 
Men’s Basketball
 
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Jack Margoupis (Jr., F), Salve Regina University
 
Junior Jack Margoupis (Sutton, Mass.) led the Seahawks to a pair of NEWMAC wins. On the road at Emerson, he scored 11 of the Seahawks' 13 points in overtime and finished with a game-high 30 in the three-point victory. At home, he again led all players in scoring (20 points) as Salve Regina defeated Clark for the first time ever, 70-55, to go 1-11 all-time in the series. Margoupis shot over 50 percent from the floor (16-of-31) and made 14-of-18 free throws to average 25.0 points per game. He also added three assists.
 
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Eoin Morrissey (Sr., F), Wheaton College
 
Senior Eoin Morrissey (Watertown, Mass.) averaged 10.5 rebounds, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game to go with 16.5 points and 1.0 assists per game. The forward began the week with a double-double of 13 rebounds and 15 points and added an assist in Wheaton's 81-75 win at United States Coast Guard Academy on January 7. Morrissey capped the week with eight rebounds, 18 points, two steals, a pair of blocks, and an assist vs. Massachusetts Institute of Technology on January 10.
 
Women’s Basketball
 
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Claire Finney (Jr., G), Springfield College   
 
Junior Claire Finney (Haverhill, Mass.) powered Springfield to a 70-66 win over No. 19/22 Amherst College on Tuesday as she poured in a career-high 23 points, shot 9-for-15 from the floor, and added four rebounds as the Pride defeated the Mammoths in Blake Arena for the first time since 2006. Finney then added 14 points and five steals in a close contest with No. 3 Smith on Saturday.
 
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Trinity Barrow (Jr., G), Wellesley College
 
Junior Trinity Barrow (Evans, Ga.) made a significant defensive impact for the Blue during a 2-0 week. The junior recorded eight steals and 25 rebounds while adding 33 points and 11 assists offensively. Barrow set a career-high in boards in a victory over Regis, pulling down 14, including five offensive. The guard was in peak form in a 76-39 showing against Dean, grabbing six steals with 11 rebounds.
 
Men’s Swimming & Diving
 
Diver of the Week – Christian Butler (Jr.), Springfield College
 
Junior Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) swept both boards in a double dual meet with Union and Hartwick on Saturday. Butler broke the pool record on the 3-meter board – a mark that had stood since 1998 – with his score of 306.70 and also notched a 295.80 on the 1-meter board. Both scores were once again above the NCAA regional qualifying mark.
 
Relay of the Week – 200 Freestyle Relay, Babson College
 
The quartet of Tommy Hannenian, Thomas Ambelang, Matthias McFarlane and Evan Hong posted a time of 1:27.71 to take first place by just over a second in the 200 free relay during Saturday’s dual-meet victory at Wesleyan. Their time was just under a second and a half off the team’s season-best set back in late November. 
 
Swimmer of the Week – Matthias McFarlane (Fy.), Babson College
 
First year Matthias McFarlane (Trumbull, Conn.) recorded a pair of first-place finishes and season-best times in both events to help Babson defeat Wesleyan in a dual meet on Saturday. He won the 50 breaststroke with a time of 26.58 and touched the wall with a time of 2:13.50 in the 200 breaststroke later in the meet. In addition to his individual success, McFarlane was also part of one first-place and one second-place finish in the relay events. 
 
Women’s Swimming & Diving
 
Relay of the Week – 200 Yard Freestyle, Babson College
 
Babson’s 200 free relay team of Samantha Gilbert, Hailey Cronan, Sylvie Racicot and Julia Netishen came in first with a time of 1:40.59 in Saturday’s dual meet at Wesleyan. The Beavers touched the wall 0.48 seconds ahead of the Cardinals in the race. 
 
Swimmer of the Week – Tuana Turhan (So.), Babson College   
 
Sophomore Tuana Turhan (Lake Forest, Ill.) recorded a pair of first-place finishes and one runner-up result in three events during Saturday’s dual meet at Wesleyan. She won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:14.90, came in second in the 50 butterfly, clocking in at 27.31 and then won the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.81.
