NEWMAC Recognizes 2025 Rowing Postseason Awards

Marlborough, Mass.- Following the 2025 NEWMAC Rowing Championship on April 26, the NEWMAC released its major awards and all-conference teams. Voted on by the seven head coaches, the Rowing All-Conference Team consists of a first team and a second team with nine honorees on each team, as well as the Rower, Coxswain and Coaching Staff of the Year.
 
Coast Guard’s Katharine Morgan (Glenside, Pa.) was voted as the conference's Rower of the Year while teammate Elise Beauchemin (Newbury, N.H.) was awarded Coxswain of the Year accolades. Wellesley College was voted the Coaching Staff of the Year.
 
Joining Morgan and Beauchemin on the All-Conference first team was teammate Martha Enestvedt (St. Paul, Minn.). NEWMAC Champion Wellesley saw three honored in Bronnie Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.), Hannah Bates (Fair Haven, N.J.) and Lucy Weil (Washington, D.C.). WPI’s Maggie Kirwan (Wolfeboro, N.H.), Victoria Serrambana (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Megan Tupaj (Amherst, NH) rounded out the first team selection.

The second team included Danielle Chace (Scotts Valley, Calif.) and Lucy Powdermaker (Newton Center, Mass.) of Clark University and Mount Holyoke’s Lilla Carroll (Birmingham, Ala.) and Katrina Holbrook (Saint Paul, Minn.).  Simmons College Michaline Becknell (Arlington, Va.) and Ivy Maynard (Glastonbury, Conn.) were also honored, along with Kathleen Bacigalupi (Saint Paul, Minn.) and teammate Greta Stekl (Amherst, Mass.) of Smith. Katherine Lindsay (Ashford, Conn.) of WPI closed out the selections.

Rower of the Year- Katharine Morgan, Coast Guard
 
Morgan was named Rower of the Year after leading Coast Guard to a fourth-place finish with 33 points. Coast Guard also tied with WPI for third place in the Florence Jope Smith Cup standings with 24 points. Coast Guard took third place in the First Varsity 8 with a time of 7:50.66
 
Coxswain of the Year- Elise Beauchemin, Coast Guard
 
Beauchemin was named Coxswain of the Year after guiding the Bears to a third-place finish in the First Varsity 8 with a time of 7:50.66. Coast Guard finished in fourth with 33 points and tied with WPI for third place in the Florence Jope Smith Cup standings.

Coaching Staff of the Year- Wellesley College
 
Wellesley captured the NEWMAC Championship for 12th time, and the eleventh of head coach Tessa Spillane’s career. The Blue earned 43 points by winning the Varsity Eight (V8+) race and taking second in the Second Varsity Eight (2V8+). Wellesley also tied with Smith for first place at 36 points to share a win in the Florence Jope Smith Cup Standings. The Florence Jope Smith Cup is awarded annually to the school with the highest number of points from the overall results at the NEWMAC Championship. Joining Spillane on the Wellesley staff is Associate Head Coach Emilie Muller and Assistant Frances Dingivan.
