NEWMAC Announces Athlete of the Week Honorees (week ending April 27)

Marlborough, Mass.- The NEWMAC has announced its Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending 4/27/25.  The full list of honorees can be found below.
 
Baseball
 
Athlete of the Week- Hunter Yaworski (Gr., DH), Salve Regina University
 
Graduate student Hunter Yaworski (Brooklyn, Conn.) batted .667 with eight hits in 12 at bats including a double and two home runs to slug 1.250 as the Seahawks extended their win streak to 10 games during a 4-0 week. Yaworski also scored four times and drove in 11 runs. With two bases on balls and a hit by pitch, Yaworski's on-base percentage was .733 for the week.
 
Pitcher of the Week- Mason Estrada (So., P), MIT
 
Sophomore Mason Estrada (Covington, La.) picked up a 6-1 conference win over Wheaton, giving up only 3 hits in 6.0 innings without allowing a run, while striking out 12.
 
Men's Lacrosse

Offensive Athlete of the Week- Mason Nocito (Gr., M), Springfield College  

Graduate student Mason Nocito (Mahopac, N.Y.) returned from an injury and registered five goals in a 15-12 win for the Pride at Wheaton on Saturday. Nocito's efforts pushed Springfield to an undefeated 7-0 in NEWMAC play helping the Pride clinch its first outright regular season title since 2016.

Defensive Athlete of the Week- Brett Tobasky (So.,GK), U.S. Coast Guard Academy

Sophomore Brett Tobasky (Brookline, Mass.) made 14 saves with a .609 save percentage as Coast Guard wrapped up the regular season with a 11-9 win over No. 18 Babson College. He also scooped up two ground balls and caused a turnover in the win.

Face-Off Specialist of the Week – Vincent Scialdone (Sr., FO), Springfield College

Senior Vincent Scialdone (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) was dominant on the face off in a 15-12 win for Springfield at Wheaton on Saturday. The senior specialist won 21-of-28 attempts against the Lyons and scooped up a pair of ground balls to help Springfield clinch its first outright NEWMAC regular season title since 2016.
 
Women's Lacrosse

Offensive Athlete of the Week- Amelia Novitch (Sr., A), Babson College

Senior Amelia Novitch (Dover, Mass.) scored a season-high four goals and added three assists for a season-best seven points as No. 14/13 Babson eased past Wellesley in its regular season finale last Wednesday. She did all of her damage in the opening quarter, scoring four of the Beavers' first nine goals and assisting on three others as they built a 12-1 lead. 

Defensive Athlete of the Week- Lauren Henry (Jr., D), U.S. Coast Guard Academy

Junior Lauren Henry (Monroe, Conn.) helped the Bears hold Clark to only one goal, as she caused four turnovers and had four draw controls in Coast Guard's last game of the regular season.
 
Softball
 
Athlete of the Week- Virginia McKinney (So., OF), WPI
 
Sophomore Virginia McKinney (Larchmont, N.Y.) delivered a spectacular week at the plate and on the basepaths, hitting .615 (8-for-13) with nine runs scored, six RBIs, two triples, a double, and five stolen bases across four games. McKinney was unstoppable during a sweep of Clark, going 4-for-4 in game two with a double, two triples, three RBIs, and three runs scored. She added a three-hit, three-run performance against Amherst earlier in the week, including a stolen base and an RBI double. Overall, McKinney posted a .643 on-base percentage and a 1.077 slugging percentage, igniting the WPI offense at the top of the lineup in a 3–1 week.

Pitcher of the Week- Cameron Whiteford (Gr., P), Babson College
 
Graduate student Cameron Whiteford (Centerville, Md.) made three appearances in the circle and went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA, a 0.58 WHIP, two shutouts, a no-hitter and 20 strikeouts against just three walks over 15.1 innings. She fanned 10 to record her second no-hitter of the season in Thursday's 3-0 win over Bates and followed it up with her fifth shutout of the year, striking out eight and scattering five hits to lead the Beavers to a 1-0 victory over Salve Regina on Sunday. 
 
Women's Tennis
 
Singles Player of the WeekMatia Cristiani (Jr.), Babson College
 
Junior Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) went 2-0 with wins at both number one and number two singles for Babson. She cruised past Kara Greenlee 6-1, 6-0 at number one in Tuesday's 7-0 win at Wheaton and then defeated 33rd-ranked Amy Cui of Amherst, 6-4, 6-4, at number two to extend her personal winning streak to 17 matches in the Beavers' 4-3 loss to No. 13 Amherst on Saturday. 
 
Doubles Team of the Week – Matia Cristiani & Olivia Soffer, Babson College
 
Olivia Soffer and Matia Cristiani went 2-0 at number one doubles to extend their winning streak to 10 matches. They cruised to a 6-0 triumph over Kara Greenlee and Alissa Ortiz in Tuesday's 7-0 win over Wheaton and followed it up with a 6-4 victory over 22nd-ranked Lily Dounchis and Delialia Friedman of Amherst on Saturday in a rematch of last year's NCAA doubles semifinals.
