NEWMAC Announces Athlete of the Week Honorees (week ending December 7)

Marlborough, Mass.- The NEWMAC has announced its Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending 12/7/25, presented by SKYBOKX 109.  The full list of honorees can be found below.
 
Men’s Basketball
 
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Jack Margoupis (Jr., F), Salve Regina University
 
Junior Jack Margoupis (Sutton, Mass.) led the Seahawks in scoring in both games of a 2-0 week, including a season-high 32 in Salve Regina's 68-54 NEWMAC victory at MIT. He averaged a double-double for the week, with 29.5 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game, while shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor (18-for-37) and 82 percent from the line (14-for-17). He added four assists, three steals, and two blocked shots on the week.
 
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Dimetri Iafrate (Jr., G), Wheaton College
 
Junior Dimetri Iafrate (Johnston, R.I.) averaged 3.5 steals per game over two games, along with 24.0 points and 5.5 assists, while shooting 65.4% (17-26) from the floor and 92.3% (12-13) from the free throw line to go with 3.5 rebounds per game. The guard poured in a career-high 27 points on December 3 against visiting Springfield College on 10-14 shooting and added five assists, six boards, and a pair of steals. Iafrate closed out the week by netting 21 points on 7-12 from the floor and was 6-6 from the line in addition to handing out a game-high six assists, coming up with five steals, and grabbing a rebound at Emerson College on December 6.
 
Women’s Basketball
 
Co-Offensive Athlete of the Week- Carrie Hess (Sr., F), Springfield College  
 
Senior Carrie Hess (Shrewsbury, Mass.) put up career-high point totals in back-to-back games, leading the Pride to wins over both Worcester State and Lasell this week. Hess began the week with 20 points in a 75-50 victory over the Lancers before she put up 29 points in a 76-68 win over the Lasers. In nearly 67 minutes of play, Hess shot at a 66.7 percent clip from the floor (22-for-33) and buried all three of her attempts from behind the arc. The junior forward also added ten rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block this week for the Pride.
 
Co-Offensive Athlete of the Week- Sofia Neary (Sr., F), Springfield College  
 
Senior Sofia Neary (Wayne, N.J.) posted a pair of double-doubles (seven in nine games on the season) for the Seahawks in a 2-0 week. The senior captain was the game-high scorer in both wins, including her season-best 31-point performance in a road win against Emmanuel College. Salve Regina rallied from a five-point halftime deficit against Connecticut College, with Neary consistently pouring in nine points in each half. Her 13th rebound of the game secured the one-point victory. Neary averaged 24.50 points per game, to go along with 13.0 rebounds per game.
 
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Claire English (Jr., F/C), Emerson College
 
Junior Claire English (Winchester, Mass.) averaged 3.0 blocked shots and 2.0 steals per game for the Lions in a 1-1 week, pulling down 7.5 rebounds, including 6.5 per game on the defensive end, for the week. She also chipped in 7.0 points on 63.6% shooting for the week. English pulled down ten rebounds to go with eight points, four blocked shots, and two steals at Emmanuel on Thursday. She followed that up with two blocks, two steals, and five rebounds with six points on 3-of-3 shooting in Saturday's 85-75 win over Framingham State.
 
Men’s Swimming & Diving
 
Diver of the Week – Christian Butler (Jr.), Springfield College
 
Junior Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) came in first place on both boards with a pair of NCAA Diving Regional scores at this weekend's LGR Invitational. Butler recorded an 11-dive NCAA diving regional qualifying score of 541.70 on the three-meter board and an 11-dive NCAA diving regional qualifying score of 498.20 on the one-meter board to lead the Pride over the weekend. His 3-meter score broke RPI's pool record that has stood since 1996, while his 1-meter score broke RPI's pool record that has stood since 1986.
 
Relay of the Week – 400 Freestyle Relay, MIT

The MIT 400 Free Relay team of Evan Wong, Aitor Arrese-Igor, Bryce Roberts, and Nathan Kim won the event in 2:58.32 at the MIT Winter Invitational. The time is an NCAA B Cut time and ranks in the top five in DIII.

Swimmer of the Week – Grant Hu (So.), MIT
 
Sophomore Grant Hu’s (Allen, Texas) lead-off leg of the 800-Free (1:36.94) is the second-fastest 200 time in program history and is the fourth fastest time in DIII. In the 400 IM, he set a new school and pool record, besting his own record that he set last year, winning in 3:51.57. In the 500 free, he swam faster than last year’s invited time, winning his second individual event by clocking in at 4:26.77.
 
Women’s Swimming & Diving
 
Diver of the Week- Elizabeth Santos (Sr.), Springfield College
 
Senior Elizabeth Santos (Chicopee, Mass.) registered a pair of NCAA Diving Regional qualifying scores this weekend, winning the three-meter board with a mark of 475.95 and placing second on the one-meter board with a score of 423.00 to lead Springfield at the LGR Invitational.
 
Relay of the Week – 800 Yard Freestyle, MIT
 
The 800 Free Relay team of Mary Feliz, Belise Swartwood, Sydney Smith, and Ella Roberson won the event in 7:23.52 at the MIT Winter Invite. The time is an NCAA B Cut and faster than last year's invited time, and currently ranks as the fastest in the country.
 
Swimmer of the Week – Mary Feliz (So.), MIT  
 
Sophomore Mary Feliz’s (Millersville, Md.) leadoff leg of the 800-Relay (1:49.84) is the fourth-fastest 200 time in program history and currently ranks fifth in Division III. She also had a B Cut in the 200 Fly, which was faster than last year’s invited time, and recorded a B Cut in the 500 Free. She collected a first and second place finish and was a part of three relay wins.
