NEWMAC Announces 2025 Football Postseason Awards

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – The NEWMAC has released its football postseason awards, as announced by the conference on Thursday morning. The awards are determined by the conference’s eight coaches following the conclusion of regular-season play.

Running back Harrison Hensley (Riverview, Fla.) of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy was voted NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Year. Springfield College’s Tyler Sordillo (Hull, Mass.) earned Defensive Player of the Year honors, while his teammate Tyler Paladino (Cross River, N.Y.) was voted Special Teams Player of the Year. Rookie of the Year honors went to MIT’s Joshua Tang (Spring, Texas). Springfield’s Tyler Pohlman (St. James, N.Y.) was named the Laurels of Academic Excellence honoree. The Springfield coaching staff was selected as Coaching Staff of the Year by their peers.

Hensley headlines the running back selections and is joined by SUNY Maritime’s Joshua Rogers (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Salve Regina University’s Justan Luzzi (Belleville, N.J.). Springfield’s Stanford Davis (Montague, N.J.) is the fullback selection. SUNY Maritime’s Will Pickett (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) is the first-team quarterback selection, while his target, Nate Casaburi (Sayville, N.Y.), earned a nod at wide receiver. Coast Guard’s Broock Desta (San Diego, Calif.) and Salve Regina’s Jacoby Smith (Middletown, R.I.) join as wide receivers. The tight end spot went to Michael Dennison (Beaufort, S.C.) of MIT. Six offensive linemen join the first team in Coast Guard’s Jay Martin (Newton, N.J.) and Ethan Tabit (Warrenton, Va.), MIT’s Jack Paris (Los Angeles, Calif.), Salve Regina’s Jake Moore (Saxtons River, N.Y.), Springfield’s Craig Connell (Goshen, N.Y.), and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy’s Cole Baiamonte (Arabi, La.). Defensively, Sordillo leads the way at the defensive lineman spot and is joined by teammate Aaziah Scott (Savannah, Ga.). MIT’s Stephen Schulze (Westminster, Md.) and SUNY Maritime’s Vinny Fundaro (Levittown, N.Y.) also earned a spot. Lucky Deignan (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Dominic Hess (Damascus, Md.) of MIT, and Bryan Feliciano (Clifton, N.J.) and Tyler Paladino of Springfield made the team as defensive backs. The linebacker selections went to MIT’s Chase Williams (Missoula, Mont.), Salve’s James Minotti (Bedford Hills, N.Y.), Springfield’s Hunter Hayes (Auburn, Maine), and Merchant Marine’s Aidan Graham (Allen, Texas). The first team kicker selection is Caleb McClure (Canton, Ga.) of Coast Guard, while punting accolades go to WPI’s Josh Castro (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Jacoby Smith also garnered first-team honors as a return specialist, along with Coast Guard’s Freddy Barber (Matoaca, Va.). Bubba Mustain (Oro Valley, Ariz.) of Merchant Marine is the first team athlete selection.

Coast Guard’s Sean Burns (Absecon, N.J.) is the second team quarterback pick, while Springfield’s Bode Dunn (Stockton, N.J.) secures the fullback position. Andrew Kulhan (Scottsdale, Ariz.) of MIT and James Green (Gales Ferry, Conn.) from Springfield take the running back spots. Merchant Marine nabs the tight end slot with Ben Rini (Vermilion, Ohio). Josh Limage (Valley Stream, N.Y.) of SUNY Maritime, Matthew LaBouliere (Pipersville, Pa.) of Coast Guard, and WPI’s Josh Castro are the wide receiver selections. Six offensive linemen made their way onto the second team: Luke Schenk (Westfield, Ind.) of MIT, Sebastian Pacheco (Lincoln, R.I.) of Salve Regina, Jack Mealy (Highland Mills, N.Y.) from Springfield, Anthony Corvino (Oceanside, N.Y.) and Matt Pompei (Manorville, N.Y.) of SUNY Maritime and Denys Miroshnyk (Indianapolis, Ind.) from USMMA. Defensively, Caleb Davis (Houston, Texas) of MIT, Marceus Jean-Jacques (New Canaan, Conn.) of Salve Regina, Nick Gonzales (Parsippany, N.J.) of Springfield, and Zatyk Holub (Mount Vernon, Iowa) of Merchant Marine made the second team as defensive backs. In the linebacker slot are Will Aviles (Bethlehem, Pa.) and Nick Peterson (Kingston, Mass.) of Springfield, Jack Kellner (Seaford, N.Y.) of SUNY Maritime, and Carter Learned (Reading, Mass.) of WPI. Second team defensive lineman selections include Jason Fisher (Hamburg, N.J.) of Salve Regina, Christian Johnson-Hall (Savannah, Ga.) and JT Kinsey (Savannah, Ga.) of Springfield, Gino Fundaro (Levittown, N.Y.) from SUNY Maritime, William Wolf (Front Royal, Va.) of Coast Guard, and Sam MacDonald (Phoenix, Ariz.) of Merchant Marine. The second team kicker selection is Karson Bye (Liberty Hill, Texas) of USMMA, while punting accolades go to MIT’s Nico Bulhof (Bryan, Texas). Chase Shavey (Mercer Island, Wash.) of Merchant Marine garners second-team accolades as a return specialist. Springfield’s TJ Welch (Shrewsbury, Mass.) wraps up the selections in the second team athlete slot.

Offensive Player of the Year- Harrison Hensley (Jr., RB), U.S. Coast Guard Academy

Hensley leads the conference in nearly every rushing category, including rushing yards (1565), average yards per carry (7.0), touchdowns (18), and average yards per game (156.5). Hensley is one of the top rushers in the nation, as his rushing yards and yards per game put him at third in NCAA Division III, while his touchdowns are tied for seventh, and his yards per carry are ninth. He also chipped in three receiving touchdowns and 250 receiving yards this season. In conference play, Hensley still leads all rushing categories with 983 yards (140.4 per game), 6.1 yards per carry, and nine touchdowns.

Defensive Player of the Year- Tyler Sordillo (Jr., DL), Springfield College

Tyler Sordillo leads the NEWMAC and ranks eighth in the country in sacks with 11.5 and has 45 total tackles on the year, including 13.5 for a net loss of 74 yards. Sordillo and the Springfield defense rank second in the nation in total defense at just 196.5 yards per game and 7th in the nation in scoring defense at just 11.8 points per game. In seven conference games, Sordillo compiled a league-leading 10.5 sacks and 12 tackles for a loss.

Special Teams Player of the Year – Tyler Paladino (Sr., DB), Springfield College

Tyler Paladino anchored Springfield's return unit, which leads the league with 26.3 yards per kickoff return and 18.8 yards per punt return. Paladino had six kickoff returns for 38.8 yards and one touchdown and 233 total yards, as well as 10 punt returns for 93 yards, 31.0 per return and two touchdowns. Against MIT, Paladino returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown, and then against Norwich, returned a punt 83 yards for a touchdown. 

Rookie of the Year- Joshua Tang (Fy., LB), MIT

In his first season at MIT, Tang started all seven NEWMAC games, compiling 26 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, one interception, and two pass breakups. Overall, Tang had 29 tackles for the Engineers.

Laurels of Academic Excellence- Tyler Pohlman (Gr., DB), Springfield College

The Laurels of Academic Excellence are awarded to the student-athlete with the highest GPA from the football conference champion. Pohlman, who earned his undergraduate degree in physical therapy and is pursuing his master's in business administration from Springfield College, earned a 3.903 grade point average through his senior season, while currently sporting a 4.0 grade point average in graduate school.

Coaching Staff of the Year – Springfield College

The Pride, led by head coach Mike Cerasuolo, went 8-2 overall and 7-0 in conference play, capturing their fifth-straight NEWMAC title and an automatic berth into the NCAA Football Championship. The Springfield coaching staff includes Defensive Coordinator Nic Keene, Co-Coordinator and Halfbacks Coach Storm Jipson, Co-Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach Will Nipon, Offensive Line Assistant Coach Bill Moore, and graduate assistants Jacob DiRenzo, Sam Nelson, Vince Reph, Kyle Woodring, Alfred Boni, Aiden Lewin, and Kevin Lind.
