NEWMAC Announces Athlete of the Week Honorees (week ending February 4)

Westwood, Mass.- The NEWMAC has announced its Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending 2/4/24.  The full list of honorees can be found below.
 
Men’s Basketball
 
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Isaac Dobie, (Fy., G), MIT
 
First year Isaac Dobie (Kitty Hawk, N.C.) produces a 34-point, 11-rebound double-double to help the MIT Engineers to a wire-to-wire 97-81 victory over Coast Guard. Dobie went 15-17 from the free throw line and 3-5 from behind the arch. His 34-point performance is the second-most in a NEWMAC contest this season, bested only by his 37-point performance against Clark earlier in the season. In addition, he scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds in the Engineers game against Babson. 
 
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Timmy O’Toole (So., F), Babson College
 
Sophomore Timmy O’Toole (Milton, Mass.) posted a pair of double-doubles and averaged 10.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.0 block in a 2-0 week for Babson. He finished with 10 rebounds and one steal to go along with 17 points in Wednesday’s 84-68 victory at MIT and followed it up with 11 boards, three steals and two blocks while adding 13 points in Saturday’s 67-44 triumph over Springfield. 
 
Women’s Basketball
 
Offensive Athlete of the Week- Ally Yamada (Sr., G), Smith College
 
Senior Ally Yamada (Seal Beach, Calif.) etched herself into the Smith record books as the senior guard scored her 1,000th career point and became the program's all-time leader in career three-pointers. She averaged 26 points and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 63.6% from three-point range. In Smith's win at Coast Guard, she poured in 22 points and shot 6-of-9 from three. She followed that with a career-high 30 points and eight 3-pointers in a win over Clark. 
 
Defensive Athlete of the Week- Samantha Reale (Fy., G/F), Babson College
 
First year Samantha Reale (North Attleboro, Mass.) averaged 3.0 steals and 4.5 rebounds as Babson extended its winning streak to five with a pair of conference wins. She contributed two steals and three boards while playing just 17 minutes in Wednesday’s 80-51 victory over Wellesley and then matched her career highs with four steals and six rebounds to go along with 10 points as the Beavers downed Wheaton, 63-55. 
 
Men’s Swimming & Diving

Relay Team of the Week- 400 Free Relay, MIT
 
The MIT 400-Yard Freestyle Relay Team grabbed an almost five-second win over Amherst on Saturday as the Engineers won the meet by a score of 202.5-74.5. The team of senior Tobe Obochi, senior Jaden Luo, sophomore Eugene Jiang, and senior Aaron Zhu took the top spot with a time of 3:05.39. 
 
Swimmer of the Week – Roderick Huang (Jr.), MIT
 
Junior Roderick Huang (Cupertino, Calif.) grabbed wins in both the 100 and 200-Breast and was a member of the 200IM winning relay team in the Engineers 202.5-74.5 win over Amherst. Huang just edged out the win in the 100 by .02 seconds as he won with a time of 58.58. He used a final leg time of 31.77 to take a .09-second win in the 200 with a time of 2:08.07. In addition, he finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.87. 

Women’s Swimming & Diving
 
Diver of the Week- Maddy Sewell (Sr.), Mount Holyoke College
 
Senior Maddy Sewell (Scottsdale, Ariz.) scored a career-high 277.15 points on six attempts in 3-meter diving competing unopposed Saturday at the Vassar Sprint Invitational. Sewell also won 1-meter diving with 245.10 points.
 
Relay Team of the Week- 400-Yard Free Relay, MIT
 
The Engineers 400-Yard Free Relay team of first year Sydney Smith, junior Kate Augustyn, sophomore Sonia Seliger and first year Ella Roberson won the event in 3:28.26, almost five seconds ahead of the team from Amherst in the Engineers 213-77 win over the Mammoth. 
 
Swimmer of the Week – Kate Augustyn (Jr.), MIT

Junior Kate Augustyn (Eau Claire, Wis.) won two individual events and was also a member of two relay victories in the Engineers 213-77 win over Amherst. Augustyn was a member of the 200 IM and 400-Free relay teams and brought home individual wins in the 200 and 500 free. She finished the 200 with a time of 1:53.56 and posted an almost two-second win in the 500 with a mark of 5:05.38.
