MIT Sweeps NEWMAC Men's Cross Country Postseason Awards Following 24th Straight Title
WESTWOOD, Mass – Following the Engineers' 24th consecutive NEWMAC Men's Cross Country Championship title at Highland Park on October 30, MIT student-athletes Sam Acquaviva and Jake Cobb earned major awards for their performance at the competition.
Acquaviva was named NEWMAC Athlete of the Year, while Cobb as tabbed Rookie of the Year. The Engineers' coaching staff was recognized as the 2022 NEWMAC Coaching Staff of the Year as the program earned the lowest possible score of 15 points with all of the top six and eight of the top 10 hailing from the national powerhouse.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute placed second with a score of 61 points, while Babson College finished third with 89 points. Springfield was not far behind in fourth with 103 points and United States Coast Guard Academy scored 125 points to finish fifth. Wheaton registered 180 points to place sixth, followed closely by Emerson College in seventh with 195 points. Clark University placed eighth with 246 points.
The top 14 finishers all earned NEWMAC All-Conference status.
