NEWMAC Announces Women's Cross Country 25 Year Anniversary Team
NEWMAC 25-Year Anniversary Information
WESTWOOD, Mass. - The NEWMAC is thrilled to announce the Women's Cross Country 25 Year All-NEWMAC Team in celebration of the historic 25th Anniversary season. The team is comprised of 21 student-athletes from the last 25 years announced by the conference office and voted on by the membership.
Seven total institutions were represented by their student-athletes who amassed the accolade. MIT led the way with 10 student-athletes representing the institution; they were followed by three from both Springfield College and Wellesley College, and one from Babson College, Mount Holyoke College, Wheaton College, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
Among the honorees, 15 achieved Runner of the Year recognition, 15 garnered at least one All-American and an additional 15 All-Region awards.
MIT's Head Coach, Halston Taylor was voted as the top Women's Cross Country Coach of the last 25 years.
Taylor's recent retirement in 2021 saw the end of a decorated coaching career that began with MIT in 1982 where he captured 13 total NEWMAC titles.
The Women's Cross Country 25 Year All-NEWMAC Team was voted on by current women's cross country coaches and sports information directors at the conference's 11 member institutions. Voters were asked to rank student-athletes and were not allowed to vote for members or coaches from their own institution. To be eligible for the 25th anniversary team, student-athletes must have been recognized on the NEWMAC First-Team All-Conference team at least twice, and/or earned Athlete or Defensive Player of the Year honors. Coaches must have coached in the NEWMAC for a minimum of 10 seasons.
The NEWMAC was established in 1998, when the former New England Women's 8 Conference (NEW 8) voted to begin sponsoring conference play and championships for men. At this time, the conference expanded its membership to include Springfield College and the United States Coast Guard Academy, while Emerson College became the 11th full-time member of the conference on July 1, 2013. Salve Regina University will become the conferences 12th core member, effective on June 1, 2023.
